Comments have been slowing down as of late, so we'll put WIH on the shelf for now until January. I thought it'd be nice to use this time/space to chat Christmas gifts with one another. The countdown is on, and as of today, we are only 11 days away from the 25th. Holy crikey!

As many of you may know, I've been working on starting my own clothing line in the surf/skate/snowboarding/Hawaii genre. Not sure if I'll be able to make it in time for the Christmas rush, but you guys will be the first to know once it goes live... Fo sho!

In the meantime I wanted to share a couple of other brands out there that you might be interested in. One line is from a friend (an old high school classmate), and the other line is from a couple of new friends (met them at a craft fair).

Kentajes Wear
Pronounced "contagious", this brand encourages you to "Spread Da Aloha" (hence the use of contagious). It is a surf line from my high school buddy Kalani Heatherly. I can vouch that he is definitely a super cool guy and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet (he thanked me profusely when I told him I'd be writing about his line here). I always remember him being very friendly to everyone in high school, and he was exactly the same when I saw him recently (story below) so I totally support him and his line, and hope you will too.

I had the opportunity to see him again (after many years) at a recent event in Kakaako, where he had a booth. During the down times, I was able to hang out with him at his booth and catch up. He let me pick his brain about the clothing industry and was super supportive and encouraging, telling me to go for it! He even gave me a free T-Shirt at the end of the night (the cool, green version below).

Kraze Apparel
I actual "met" the owner of Kraze Apparel (Peter Tsuru) on Twitter. We got to talking about the industry through email and he seemed like a really open and giving guy. He was basically giving some stranger (me) advice about the industry and tips on how to be successful. I wanted to meet him personally to thank him so he invited me to visit their booth at the Mililani High School Athletic Booster Club Craft Fair. So last month, I checked it out and ended up chatting with him and his partner Kim Kaapana (who happens to be an old Intermediate school classmate of mine... small world I tell ya!) for some time. They continued to provide me with helpful tips and encouraged me with my line. Super cool guys man!

I first met Reagan Penn when I flew up to Hilo in May of 2009 to interview his famous brother, beloved MMA legend BJ Penn. We were meeting up at their other brother JD's house, and Reagan came by on his bicycle after a day at the gym.

Fast forward to today. Bruddah is preparing for one of the biggest weekends of his life when he will be making his professional fighting debut on one of the most anticipated MMA fight cards in recent Hawaii history as Pro Elite (re)debuts on Saturday, September 27th at the Neal Blaisdell Arena with a stacked card featuring former UFC stars Andrei Arlovski, Kendall Grove, Joe Riggs and Drew McFedries. The real story though, at least for true fight fans like myself, is the one surrounding Reagan Penn.

Prior to this, Reagan led a relatively modest but exciting life, supporting his brother BJ as he went on to capture UFC glory by winning both the Welterweight and Lightweight titles. This weekend, when Reagan faces an undefeated Paul Gardiner, he will step out his brother's shadow to work on creating his own legacy in the fight world.

It's that time of year again... Das right! Super Bowl Sunday is right around the corner. On one side, we got Big Ben, Troy's hair and the rest of the Pittsburgh Steelers' D, while on the other side, we have the cheeseheads and the air attack of Aaron Rodgers and company. Who's your pick this year and why?

Me? I want Green Bay! Aside from the one week during the playoffs where he sat out and completely screwed my fantasy team (d'oh!), Rodgers was a beast all year! He seems like a nice guy too! Besides that, I'm not very fond of Roethlisberger. Gooooo Cheeseheads!

As an avid University of Hawaii Warrior Men's Basketball fan, I have been following former Advertiser sports reporter Dayton Morinaga's new venture - WarriorInsider - with much interest.

When my Google Reader showed up last week with the title "Hawaii 5-0" in it, I skipped over everything else and went straight for the jugular. It was actually a clever play on words referring to both the Warriors' hot 5 and 0 start (with wins over Montana State, Cal State Fullerton, Central Michigan, Central Arkansas, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff) and the popular CBS television show by the same name... Which, oh-by-the-way, happen to be two big interests of mine.

Usually our Tuesdays are reserved for Hawaii Five-0 chatter, but with last night's episode being a rerun (already???), what better time to talk about the other 5-0 right?

Note: I don't know Dayton personally (in fact, I don't think I've ever even seen him in person), but I've heard a lot of good things about him. He has no idea I'm blogging about this today, but I've always liked his work, so I wanted to do my little part to support a fellow sports fan/journalist/(and now) blogging brutha. Gotta support da local businesses naw-mean?
