Special Announcement!

June 1st, 2011
By

photoHey gang! Sorry no "Where In Hawaii" game this week, but hopefully you'll cut me some slack when you find out why... Our WWE 'ohana just got bigger! My amazing wife gave birth to our cute little baby girl last night.

She was full term, but decided to surprise us and come out two weeks earlier than expected. I had this grand plan to blog with you guys about name suggestions and pre-birth rituals, etc., but since she's already here, maybe you guys can just give us some tips and suggestions that may come in handy for this adventure to come.

It's only been less than 24 hours, but so far, it's been an amazing ride. I've gotten misty for the first time in a loooonnnnnng time (at birth and seeing wifey tear up) and I am a total "daddychondriac" waking up to every bitty sound. But it's so worth it!

Anyway, sorry for getting all mushy. Let's get back to talking about monster trucks and crushing beer cans over our heads! :P Talk to you guys soon k?

    ... not to mention, you'll be totally exhausted to do any "manly" stuff anywayz!!! ... just eat, sleep, change diapers, massage wifey's feet ... and sleep some more ...

    ... Have a Good One Everyone!!! ...

  9. che:

    Congratulations Ed!!!

    Ed never mind slacking that's no excuse for not doing the "Where in Hawaii" game. Years ago a friend's wife gave birth on Friday night and we had a 8:30am softball game Saturday morning. I was explaining that so&so was not going to make the game because his wife gave birth when I all of a sudden I saw him walking to the field in uniform and shoes. He said his wife was sleeping and the baby was with the nurses so he might as well play.

    I'm just kidding Ed and congratulations.

  10. carokun:

    So cute! thanks for posting a pic!

  11. zzzzzz:

    Congrats WWE!!

    To friends of Mr. and Mrs. WWE, when you go to visit, I suggest you take some FOOD! They are probably in a state of constant sleep deprivation and could use the break from meal prep/cleanup.

  12. soogs:

    congradumalations dad and mom! the world welcomes another sugimoto! if we are going to take over the world, its up to you man. i'm done!

    big bro's baby tip: i know its too late for this one and impossible to do b/c its your first, but my best tip would be to tell everyone to leave you, wifey and baby alone until you come home from the hospital. erry time we thought we could take a breather, someone else would come and visit with flowers and well wishes and wanting to take pics. i stayed awake for 48+ hours when my firstborn came. when the visits finally ended, i found i had no place to sleep as the flowers and gifts were all over my pullout bed! 2nd baby time - no flowers and no visits.

  13. che:

    Ed, congratulations!!!

  14. soogs:

    big bro's 2nd baby tip: when you finally get a chance, go thru the baby shower stuff and return the ones you dont need. i know it sounds brutal but chances are that you got buku duplicate stuff that you are never going to use. return 'em (even if no more return receipt some stores accept it as long as it has their tag) and spend the money on the stuff you really need: diapers, lots and lots of diapers.

  15. soogs:

    big bro's 3rd baby tip: the hospital is going to give you a baby starter kit (bag, formula, diapers, wipes, etc). make nice-nice with the nurses and your pediatrician and ask/beg/steal more of the formula. first time, i was being all enryo shinai but someone pointed out that you cannot be like that at this kine time. 2nd time, the diaper bags were full! yes, i got 2 diapers bags, which are really useful too. we ended up using those bags exclusively and the store bought fancy diaper bag was hardly ever used. basic black and not too big. i think it was designed that way so that men could put them on and not lose too much of their man cred. important to me cuz i didn't have too much to begin with!

  16. kuya.d:

    Pic 1 - time, am-ish :

    midnight 1201 1202 1203 1204 1205 1206 1207 1208 1209 1210 1211 1212 1213 1214 1215 1216 1217 1218 1219 1220 1221 1222 1223 1224 1225 1226 1227 1228 1229 1230 1231 1232 1233 1234 1235 1236 1237 1238 1239 1240 1241 1242 1243 1244 1245 1246 1247 1248 1249 1250 1251 1252 1253 1254 1255 1256 1257 1258 1259

    WHAT?! I cannot get points for guessing when she came into the world? Haha!

    Congrats Dad-E ... and to mom for all the hard work.

    Ed did you come close to fainting?

  17. Lisa:

    Tips: Photos. Take lots of 'em. Get professional ones done (ideally within her first 2 weeks). You won't ever regret it!

    Hold her often. Get a good baby carrier like the Beco Butterfly (no Bjorns, they hurt your back & hers too!). You CANNOT spoil a baby with snuggles! Plus they have nice round heads when you hold them instead of putting them in the car seat all the time. There's a local babywearing group, carrythechildren.wordpress.com, if you want to try out carriers & learn more.

    Especially if she's breastfeeding, keep her in your room the first few months so everyone sleeps better (reduces SIDS risk as well). For support, the lactation consultants at Hawaii Mother's Milk at Kapi'olani is awesome. Services are by donation, and you can call or make an appointment for advice and assistance.

    Think "routine" and not "schedule". Dunno about you, but I eat when I'm hungry, not when the clock says so, and my kids do too. The first 4-6 weeks are pretty random, but then they start falling into a pattern & sleeping more at night. Remember night wakings are common and healthy, and again, reduce SIDS risk. Even with my 3rd, I was happy to see him waking up because that meant he was still breathing :-)

    It goes by FAST, it really does. Congratulations, and enjoy it!!

  18. Coconut Willy:

    Congrats to the proud parents!

    There will be lot of trial and error. And say good bye to sleep.

  19. NeedaHobby:

    I guess we can cut you some slack :p. Seriously though, don't worry about us ... go spend time with your little girl and wifey. Congratulations, that's awesome news!

  20. snow:

    so cute!! congratulations ed and mrs. ed!!

    my baby tips:

    miso soup is supposed to be good for mommy's milk! my mom (grandma) used to make a pot every day for my sisters when their babies were born (after i mentioned this to my former boss, her daughter had instant miso soup every day and that solved her collicky baby problem!).

    "file" the new baby clothes by size (sometimes you need to eyeball them 'cause some run bigger!), so you can easily find the right size clothes when your baby starts to grow out of a size.

    if family and friends offer to help, let them and don't feel guilty... being a tired, grouchy or overwhelmed parent isn't good for your health or your baby's. and, as the busy day-to-day life of being a parent sinks in, don't forget to take care of your wife and your marriage!

    @kuya.d - ha ha! good guesses, i'm sure! :D

  21. Ynaku:

    Congrats Daddy-O. Letting da wifie drink some wine makes milk. Might make her feel guud too.

    As for you, wake up for the 2 o'clock feeding and change those d0d0 diapers.

  22. itsjustme:

    Mommy advise - buy your wife some lansinoh from Walmart. You also want to buy her some cabbage for when her milk comes in. If the hospital has a nursery, use it! i had my baby at Kaiser and baby stays with you the whole time. Wife needs to rest before she goes home! :)

    Someone suggested to me to take one picture each day and put it in an album so you can see how much your baby changes over the first year. I didn't take that advice and I'm so sad about it now! My babygirl turns 3 next month and I so wish I had done that!

    snapfront shirts are the best invention for summer babies! you only need to "dress them up" when you take them out, otherwise diapah and shirt all day long!!

  23. M:

    Congrats Ed!

  24. Rosette:

    Okay I need to hear her story...my friend and I exchange story of our moronic husband during our delivery....!

    OH you be in for it daddy's little girl.

  25. Rosette:

    Do you know how to change diapers?

  26. Rosette:

    did you go in and actually watch the delivery or you were scared..omg funny!

  27. Rosette:

    now you better help your wife and learn to cook and do laundry...and vacuuming...!

  28. Rosette:

    yes make sure you have food when she comes home!

  29. Rosette:

    what is your wife's favorite baby girl name ..some people they mix both the partner's names and come up with name..omg I wouldn't let my husband pick a name for our boys..omg!
    what I did I heard kids names outside if you happen to be by a playground and I choose the name.

  30. Rosette:

    when our boys were little I made up a baby song to put them to sleep...
    I think in life you will learn on your own.
    my youngest brother has girls so I am not able to help with girls names.

  31. Rosette:

    Whatever you do is to enjoy the moment...learn to take good pictures funny!

  32. Rosette:

    LEARN TO RELAX AND ENJOY THE MOMENT.....

    make sure you eat and sleep..
    I cannot tell you really because when I had my boys I was young and I had energy..it was a blurr so all I can say to have food in fridge at all times... my friend she had hard time just getting food etc etc..try to cook simple food... and enjoy the baby..so cute..

    I used to have a girl come in and I nap..lol...I RELAX! you have to get your PRIORITY...

  33. Rosette:

    yes relax if you are too stress the baby will feel it..that is why my boys I never had problem with them not able to sleep.....

  34. Rosette:

    whatever you do make sure your wife eat and sleep properly...so try to cook for her...and try to get fresh air..THEN RELAX

    CONGRAT ED.

  35. Holly Hadsell:

    Since I know you like to eat. Take the baby out early to get used to restaurants. My last boy had brunch with us at Grand Cafe when he was 1 week old, he is almost 4 now and the waitstaff still remembers him! Get babies used to dining out, and different foods! Even if they don't want to eat it, they will eventually come around. Also make your own baby food, it's easy.

  36. NaPueo:

    Congratulations to Ed and the Mrs.

  37. tweetpeep22:

    CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN ED!!!!!!!!!!!

    a little advice: TAKE LOTS AND LOTS OF PICTURES!!!!!! capture every moment, every day, take a new pic... do the famous "first bocha" pic! the babies change SO FAST that you'll wonder where the time went.

    enjoy the smell of your little one, it's so sweet... it's like a precious angelic smell. sounds strange? i can remember ry's smell after a bocha and its just one of my favorite smells. enjoy before she plays soccer or something and has baby bo. lol...

    #1 advice, support your wife 120% ... she may need LOTS of rest in between the feedings and diaper changes! and just support her in whatever she needs.

    sleep when the baby sleeps, eat when the baby eats...

    i'm sure you guys don't need much advice, just go with it, have fun and laughs and you guys will be great parents!

  38. tweetpeep22:

    one thing i learned the hard way: don't let baby sleep w/the bottle in her mouth (like when she gets older). i used to let ry fall sleep w/a full bottle of whole milk. it helped her sleep thru the night, so i was HAPPY, but it caused major cavities. i never felt so guilty. :(

  39. MakiSushi:

    Big time congrats to you and da wifey!!! Baby Sugimoto is so cute!

    Parenthood is a precious thing. You going be one good daddy! Talk to her a lot, and no use baby talk, use pidgin. Kidding, about the pidgin.

  40. bB:

    congratulations!!!!! she's a cutie. good thing she look's like the mom. i just kidding. not a daddy yet so i really can't give you any advice except just love and take of her. that's what i would do.

  41. Paco:

    Congrats! I didn't even know you guys were expecting! Some lessons I've learned: 1) Your wife is always right. When her maternal instincts kick in (which us guys don't have) and if you don't go along...big beef; 2) I know its hard to get in now, but if you know someone try and buy baby formula and food from the Commissary. Was cheap! 3) Get lots of rest and stay patient.

    Sounds cold to say, but the baby is just a eating, sleeping and pooping machine for the first 2-3 months. They don't really respond to you and you're basically just trying to keep them alive (or not kill them). Enjoy!

  42. Rosette:

    enjoy your life because you will through many transitions...
    ENJOY THE JOY AND PAIN OF PARENTHOOD! WELCOME TO MY WORLD FUNNY!

  43. ssunaoka:

    Congratulations again! Best tip we got (we have a 7 month old) is to put her to sleep with some background noise whether it be a soft radio or our daughter sleeps fairly close to our bubbling fishpond. We did it and now our daughter can sleep through almost anything (including us mowing the lawn right outside her window). We don't have to worry about being super quiet all the time.

    And of course, enjoy every moment! It's amazing!

  44. c:

    Congratulation to you and your family! Awww...she's cute. Enjoy time with her everyday (and take lots of pictures), she will grow up so fast!

  45. pink lady:

    Congratulations! She looks so adorable!

  46. Rosette:

    yes enjoy the first year after they crawl OH DEAR! I always enjoyed the first year....I mean first 6 months my boys crawled early...you know it is better to be naive when you have your first child..funny.....! HEY CUT OUT ALL THE BABY FORMULA and diaper COUPONS ..if you don't plan to breast feed for a long time...

  47. Rosette:

    oh take a picture the size of toes and your hands together...

  48. Rosette:

    my first baby I enjoyed every minute cuddling....omg its been 20 years for me ED...my oldest hardly cry and he was happy snuggly baby..same with my second baby hardly cry..they sleep all night..I don't understadn how some people would say the baby cry too much or something...

  49. Rosette:

    okay I was naive with babies so that got me going for years..OMG!

  50. Rosette:

    yes I never tip toe when my boys sleep they can sleep through vacuuming and thunder plus my loud music ....so when my husband couldn't sleep with my racket going on I tell HIM HIS MOTHER'S FAULT SHE TIP TOE AROUND HIM...omg..my boys can even sleep with lights on and here is my stupid husband has to have everything quiet and no lights..so I was breasfeeding in the dark with tiny flashlight with no music..but I adjusted ....!

  51. Rosette:

    yes whatever you do don't forget you have a baby..my stupid husband forget he has the baby and he followed me we were picking up cake so I was screaming where the hell is the baby... I was thinking did he left the baby on top of the car like a cake box.....oh shit! I was inside the cake store picking up my own birthday cake I have nightmare in my dream I forget I have a baby..OMG!

  52. Rosette:

    so my advice always look inside the car even if you just go anywhere..practice peeking in the car every mintue I tell you! KEEP THAT IN YOUR HEAD!and always take your time ...

  53. Rosette:

    oh when I was breastfeeding my boys I didn't eat any hot spicy food I ate simple food ... soup like with carrot potatoes eggplant zucchini tomatoes cucumbers ..green beans yellow beans okra..all that just with chicken and I had lots of milk..

    my boys as they got older had no food allergies....if you eat too much spicy food it will affect the baby it makes them cranky or something..so I had happy baby that don't cry like crazy! as my boys got older they eat all sort of vegetables I don't have to force them to eat...so I cannot relate about some people telling me they have milk issues and cranky crying baby and picky eaters...OMG!

  54. Rosette:

    certain food if the baby doesn't like it in the breast milk look out you have cranky baby...but anyway...I was a natural mommy.. it was long ago..! I had great filipina nurse and she keeps coming back to check to see how I was breast feeding..my boys KNOWS THE BREAST OH I CRACK UP!

  55. Chicken Grease:

    Rosette, find a publisher; you MUST put these accounts into a parenting book, too hilarious!!!

    Hope aka-chan Sugimoto's enjoying her first full weekend! Kawaiiiiii!!!! Made the fellas do a toast to the new baby @ the sports bar last night, too! :)

  56. islandcrafters:

    Congratulations WWE!!! So happy for you! Life as you knew it will never be the same (in a good way). :) Enjoy each and every precious moment and poopy diaper!

  57. tita leerz:

    @Rosie #50! SO TRUE!!!!!!!!! I vacuumed and blasted bon jovi music while they slept! And I always let the dogs bark. Now, my kids will sleep through an earthquake. and they have no problem with lights...or veggies. my kids know boobs too! lol!

  58. Kage:

    Congratulations!!!

    No tips from me.
    I'm an uncle. The kids all go home when they get cranky. Or I go home if I get cranky. :)

    * 9.che:
    Ed never mind slacking that's no excuse for not doing the "Where in Hawaii" game.

    LOLOL! At least I felt guilty just a tad. Haha! See, my wife gives birth to this big thing and I still think about you guys! ;)

    * 10.carokun:

    This one helped a lot! Mahaloz big bro. I would've definitely been enryo, but once I read your post, I asked away. They didn't give us a bag, but we were able to score choke diapers, burp cloths, shirts and baby wipes. Came in handy! 8)

    "file" the new baby clothes by size (sometimes you need to eyeball them 'cause some run bigger!), so you can easily find the right size clothes when your baby starts to grow out of a size.

    Wifey did this one, which does actually help! Sometimes we get confused as to what the sizes are. Like one diaper says 1 and one says 1-2. WTH? Hehe!

    * 21.Ynaku:
    As for you, wake up for the 2 o'clock feeding and change those d0d0 diapers.

    * 30.Rosette:
    when our boys were little I made up a baby song to put them to sleep...
    I think in life you will learn on your own.

    Funny, we do make um random songs just to get them to sleep. :P

    * 34.Rosette:
    whatever you do make sure your wife eat and sleep properly...so try to cook for her...and try to get fresh air..THEN RELAX

    CONGRAT ED.

    Mahaloz Rosie!

    * 35.Holly Hadsell:

    Dayum! That is like a dream. I miss eating out and it's only been like a few weeks! Haha! Thanks for the tip HH!

    * 36.NaPueo:
    Congratulations to Ed and the Mrs.

    Mahalo Pu!

    * 37.tweetpeep22:
    CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN ED!!!!!!!!!!!

    a little advice: TAKE LOTS AND LOTS OF PICTURES!!!!!! capture every moment, every day, take a new pic... do the famous "first bocha" pic! the babies change SO FAST that you'll wonder where the time went.

    i'm sure you guys don't need much advice, just go with it, have fun and laughs and you guys will be great parents!

    Mahaloz tp! Always helps to have good advise from great friends like you guys! :)

    * 38.tweetpeep22:
    one thing i learned the hard way: don't let baby sleep w/the bottle in her mouth (like when she gets older). i used to let ry fall sleep w/a full bottle of whole milk. it helped her sleep thru the night, so i was HAPPY, but it caused major cavities. i never felt so guilty.

    Eek! Good to know. Did not know that! I'll let wifey know!

    * 39.MakiSushi:
    Big time congrats to you and da wifey!!! Baby Sugimoto is so cute!

    Parenthood is a precious thing. You going be one good daddy! Talk to her a lot, and no use baby talk, use pidgin. Kidding, about the pidgin.

    LOL! Why come? I like make her trilingual! ;) Mahaloz Maks!

    * 40.bB:
    congratulations!!!!! she's a cutie. good thing she look's like the mom. i just kidding.

    No joke. She does. I want a DNA test! Where am I in her? Haha, nah! Good thing is right! Me as a girl would not be a nice pretty sight.

    * 41.Paco:
    Sounds cold to say, but the baby is just a eating, sleeping and pooping machine for the first 2-3 months. They don't really respond to you and you're basically just trying to keep them alive (or not kill them). Enjoy!

    LOLOL! That's exactly how I see it right now too!

    * 42.Rosette:
    enjoy your life because you will through many transitions...
    ENJOY THE JOY AND PAIN OF PARENTHOOD! WELCOME TO MY WORLD FUNNY!

    Um, thanks! I think! :P

    * 43.ssunaoka:

    That's a good tip! Our neighbor said to get a machine that shoots out white noise. Must be the same concept eh? Thanks man!

    * 44.c:
    Congratulation to you and your family! Awww...she's cute. Enjoy time with her everyday (and take lots of pictures), she will grow up so fast!

    Thanks sizzle! Now I'm worried I'm not taking enough pics! Haha!

    * 45.pink lady:
    Congratulations! She looks so adorable!

    Thanks pinky! No thanks to me! :P

    * 50.Rosette:

    certain food if the baby doesn't like it in the breast milk look out you have cranky baby...but anyway...I was a natural mommy.. it was long ago..! I had great filipina nurse and she keeps coming back to check to see how I was breast feeding..my boys KNOWS THE BREAST OH I CRACK UP!

    We were wondering if that's what was making our baby fussy/gassy. I guess we shall see...

    * 55.Chicken Grease:
    Hope aka-chan Sugimoto's enjoying her first full weekend! Kawaiiiiii!!!! Made the fellas do a toast to the new baby @ the sports bar last night, too!

    I'm an uncle. The kids all go home when they get cranky. Or I go home if I get cranky.

    LOLOL! Mahaloz Kagz!

  60. Rosette:

    make sure she latch on good to the breast and not suck air and then you burp the baby

  61. Rosette:

    do not eat gassy food...

  62. Rosette:

    I don't know...you have to just figure out the best way with gas..a little gas I think okay ..but too much maybe ask the nurse.....

  63. Rosette:

    my oldest son poo across the room..talk about poo! you better learn to put diaper or it will ooze out on the side..!
