American Idol Chatter - Top 13

March 7th, 2011
By

OK, so I'm a lil' behind on this topic, but bettah late den nevah right? Besides, it's a good way to start our week off riiiight?

So last week, the American public (and judges) narrowed down the American Idol finalists to the top 13. Let's use this forum to gossip about our faves, the ones we hate, and other idol idle chatter that comes to mind for this 10th season. I'll start:

  • Ashton Jones - way too much spunk/confidence for me. There's more show than singing so far to me.
  • Casey Abrams - LOOOOOVE this guy! He cracks me up! He reminds me of Will Ferrell and Seth Rogen combined. Plus he can SAAAANG, and he still seems humble!
  • Haley Reinhart - good eye candy (right rayboyjr?), plus she can sing pretty good too. Don't think she has what it takes to win though. Also looks like she might lose her temper at one of the judges down the road.
  • Jacob Lusk - pretty good singer, but don't really like the way he overstylizes everything. If he sang straight-forward, he'd be a lot better.
  • James Durbin - Adam Lambert copycat. He can scream-sing ok, but not sure how he'll do with regular songs.
  • Karen Rodriguez - one of my favorite girls to win the whole thing. She can blow!
  • Lauren Alaina - My pick to win. She's so naturally talented and sings without any effort. Seems humble too. I like that.
  • Naima Adedapo - No idea why she made it. I can appreciate that she has so much passion for singing, but I still haven't seen anything worthwhile from her. I hope she proves me wrong, because I really think the judges made a mistake by not putting Robbie Rosen through.
  • Paul McDonald - very quirky, but I like it. Seems like a nice guy and his smile is infectious.
  • Pia Toscano - OK, and pretty good voice. Need to hear more from her to have a better opinion.
  • Scotty McCreery - CAN'T STAND HIM!!! You can just tell how conceited he is. He is his own #1 fan. Dear lord he better not win! I will admit that he has a good country singing voice, but I can't stand listening to somebody so into himself. He reminds me of last season's Michael Lynche! And he tries to act all nice and respectful, but I'm not buying it! :P
  • Stefano Langone - pretty strong voice in the upper register. Seems nice, but talks too much.
  • Thia Megia - kinda quiet, but can sing pretty good. That Michael Jackson comparison from Randy Jackson was a reach I thought, but she has a pretty good voice. Wanna see more personality from her.

My picks for the Top 3 finalists are:

  1. Lauren Alaina
  2. Casey Abrams
  3. Karen Rodriguez

Like bet? :P

So how 'bout you guys?

Talk to me!
* What do you think of the contestants this year?
* Who are your Top 3 picks?
* What do you think about the new judges?

Have a good one y'all!

    Hi Ed,

Actually I'm not watching AI. I haven't watched it for a while. :)

Hope your cough has disappeared. Have a good week!

  2. snow:

hi ed! my favorites so far are casey abrams (great voice, always on!), karen rodriguez (so much spunk and can sing too!), and james durbin (like his story and i think he can give adam a run for his money, at least at singing!). i thought the judges should have picked robbie rosen, too - he suffered from bad song choice, i think! i like scotty mccreery - i didn't think he was conceited (he asked jlo why he made it through hollywood week and said he would have cut himself... that didn't sound too conceited to me... but i'll have to watch for him on upcoming shows!).

  3. NCAA:

Jennifer Lopez is way better than Paula, Kara, and Ellen. Plus she is better eye-candy.

    As for your picks, LOL.

Too bad you don't see the honesty in Scotty.

Naima over Robbie, that's why you are not a judge.

  4. Former AI Watcher:

I just have to say that I'm done with the rest of the AI season this year. I hope Casey does win, because he may just be the most sickly talented person they've ever had on the show. However, the way they chose diversity over talent in putting Naima and Ashton through over vastly more talented Robbie and Kenra was a shame. The judges and producers should be embarrassed.

So why don't you like Scott McCreery? So full of himself? Really, you must be watching a different show in a different universe. All I know is that he has a beautifully rich country voice and probably the most likely to win success after the show ends. Country fans are loyal and steadfast.

  7. NeedaHobby:

Ed, I have to agree with your Seth Rogen and Adam Lambert copycat comments. I was hoping that Stefano would make it; although, I thought Robbie was a shoe-in. I think the top 3 will be Pia, Lauren, Casey. But, I personally like Thia. I just don't think she has the personality to get the votes.

    No Top Chef chatter? :)

Yup, 98% gone. Thanks for checking. Have a good week too c-chan!

It's all an act. Don't buy it! Hehe! One episode showed him telling people "Sing for me" as if he's the one to be with for group day. In the same episode, it showed him passing up groups like they were beneath him. And we all know how he screwed over JC. A recent episode had him saying this is the best season of Idol. Oh boy...

    * 3.NCAA:
Too bad you don't see the honesty in Scotty.

See above... Hopefully, his true colors will show one of these days to everyone who thinks he's actually genuine.

AMEN!!!!!!!! These are the times I miss Simon. He keeps it real.

I don't doubt his country-singing talent. I gave him props for that. I'm a big country fan too so I am not taking anything away from him for that. I'm all about genuine-ness. Yeah, I know, that's not a word, LOL, but I think you know what I mean. I can't stand when these young singers - who haven't achieved anything yet in the business - get ahead of themselves and let their ego run wild. It's obvious that he's getting full of himself, while trying to put on an act of being humble. I can see right through it. Hopefully, others will see it soon...

Stefano did make it through Hobbz. Did you mean Jovany? Alls I know is that I'm sooooo glad Gamboa and Jordan Dorsey got cut. *grin*

    LOL! Yeah, where's leerz? :P

    Good Morning Errr-One!!!

... hey Ed ... sorry dude ... haven't posted in a while ... maybe 'cause your pics are sooooo fricken hard ... and leaves me feelin' like a clueless schmuck ... nah, schedule's been a bit odd ...

... anyway, haven't watched AI regularly, but I did catch last week ... I don't even know most of their names yet ... all I gots to say is ...

... Jacob Lusk is too dramatic for my tastes ... a man-DIVA??? ... like Jennifer Hudson ... bleh ... don't care for that much ...

... luv Paul McDonald ...this guy has some stage personality!!! ... unique in his own way ... and entertaining ... refreshingly different ... and when I think about it ... my favorite artists/singers don't necessarily have the greatest voices ...

... Scotty McCreery ... not that I can't stand him ... he seems ok to me ... but, it's just the judges are too easy on him ... duh, of course he can sing country ... he has a great country voice ... if someone else was that one-dimensional they'd get blasted ... there doesn't seem to be too much range in his voice ...

... Stefano Langone ... pretty strong voice in the upper register??? ... are you kidding me??? ... he didn't have too much control when he tried to hit the high note in "Just The Way You Are" ... even J-Lo made a made a face when he hit that weird note ... he's ok, though ...

... Thia Megia ... my personal underdog fav .... a bit too young maybe ... lacks polish in performance, but I luv that pure clean voice ... just sings ... no overthought performance and no stylizing crap ...

... but a guy is probably going to win again ... since the strongest voting groups seems to be the young girls, cougars and grandma's ... haha ... that's why they had to put in a extra girl ...

    ... Have a Good One Everyone!!! ...

  11. che:

wow I watch a lot of TV but I could never get into American Idol.

    I'm with NeedaHobby, Top Chef.

  12. NCAA:

Thia Megia is going to win because she has a cartoon character name.

  13. NCAA:

    Ed,

Get your story straight. It was Jordan Dorsey who asked Scotty to sing for his group and it was Jordan who said hell no to Scotty.

Also it was Clint Jun Gamboa who kicked out Jacee from the group and not Scotty.

LOLOL! You may just have a point there... :P

    I'm with NeedaHobby, Top Chef.

Is there a season going on now cheche? Maybe I'll finally push myself to watch it so I can understand what you guys are chatting about. :P

    LOL!

Nope. You should watch back that episode again carefully NCAA. Jordan made Scotty sing yes, but Scotty did the same to others.

And yup, I know Gamboa kicked out Jacee, but it was because of Scotty (to make room for him). He just let it happen...

Hopefully, one day, you'll see what I do...

    Hey Ed,

    Did u abandon us?
