Hawaii Five-0: Hana `A`a Makehewa #H50

First off, big mahaloz to Chicken Grease, effenprincess and NeedaHobby for filling in (on short notice) last week with their guest posts! Your boy had to go on one business trip for Road Runner Mobile one quick one, so they chipped in and helped to keep our `ohana entertained up in hurr! Big ups!

I had CHOKE errands to do at home last night so I was finally able to sit down and watch an episode of Hawaii Five-0 in real time. And what better way to "watch" it than to join in on the #H50 convos going on simultaneously in the Twitterverse right?

Last night's episode was called "Hana `A`a Makehewa", which translates to Desperate Measures. Here's the show's synopsis:

"It's Christmas in Hawaii, but instead of celebrating, Five-0 is negotiating a hostage situation when Victor Hesse, the man who killed McGarrett's father, threatens to detonate an explosive that he's strapped to Chin Ho's chest."

So wot? What'd you guys think?

Some possible talking points for us:

  • How sad was Danno's Christmas tree? Hehe!
  • "Your house, your king's English." LOL!
  • Ikalani = Ihilani?
  • Chin Ho's use of rice to pull the moisture off the SIM card. Gooooo @ricefest, er rice! 8)
  • Was that local MMA Fighter Harris Sarmiento in the chicken fight scene? First Niko Vitale and now him. Casting directors must be MMA fans! Sweet!
  • Danno's hilarious quote, "Next time, shoot him in the face!"
  • Danno calling Sang Min (Will Yun Lee) the "Asian John Travolta". LOL!
  • Since when was Bar 35 a private hostess bar in Nu`uanu?
  • Was that an Android app that they used to track Sang's ankle tracker? DROID! :P
  • Do coppers really have 28.5 mill just lying around like that in a secret asset forfeiture locker? If so, can somebody make me a copy of that blueprint please? 8)
  • I've swear we've all had a run in with a niele ol' lady like that no!?
  • Wasn't it just off hearing Chin Ho tell Kono "aloha" in that context? Didn't care for that usage very much...
  • I almost cried seeing da $10 mill go bye bye in the fire. LOL!
  • Loved Na Leo reppin' it with their Christmas song Kana Kaloka (Here Comes Santa Claus)!
  • How about another former local boy sighting with Mark Dacascos as the evil villain Wo Fat?
  • Alex O'Loughlin. Grace Park. That is all. :P

In other news...

  • Finally catching up with my show The Sing-Off and watched back the first episode of this new season off my DVR. Woah! Committed's rendition of Maroon 5's "This Love" was off the chain!
  • Cliff Lee is heading back to my Phills son! Awwww yeah!
  • Any other Fantasy Football teams out there hurt this week by the Aaron Rodgers concussion dammit!?
  • Top Chef. That is all.

  1. NeedaHobby:

Good morning everyone! And, welcome back Ed! I hope you had a great trip!

Aw shucks, I was trying soooo hard to stay awake for H50, but fell asleep - I blame it on my sinus headache ... darn vog! Anyways, I did manage to stay awake long enough to see Danno's "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree. I gotta catch up tonight ... on the DVR.

I heard Na Leo was gonna be on. I saw the segment on Hawaii News Now beforehand. BTW, your sister rocked it as an anchor over the weekend ;)

  2. NeedaHobby:

If you loved Commited's first performance, you'll love what they did on the second show. They sang One Republic's "Apologize". Just my opinion, but, I didn't think they did as well on last night's show. I really liked Street Corner Symphony last night. I like the lead singer's voice - is his name Jeremy?

For last night's show, they had to sing "guilty pleasure" songs. I have to admit, the SHOW is a guilty pleasure for me! Move over Idol ... ;)

  3. tweetpeep22:

very good ed! all the things you high lighted above are the points worth talking about... but the most irraz moment of last night's show was when "Jin" ho kelly said ALOHA to kono, as a way of saying goodbye or i love you because he felt his end was near. it was def a gag moment! where's the cultural consultant on this? my dad felt embarassed for him.

you know, i thought that was bar 35... w/the beady curtains, lol...

the WHOLE plot seemed off... just weird. i thought it was someone after "Jin" ho kelly in the beginning and in the end we realize it's the guy who killed mcgarfett's dad. so yay, one down, 5-0 was able to arrest the guy who killed the father, we just need to know WHY now. and to my excited surprise, the iron chef guy was there!!! :) wow, he has time to take off from his flipping mystery ingridient show? since he's a local guy, this wo fat, where is he from? what school he grad from?

i think mcgarrett/dano/Jin are just digging themselves deeper and deeper into trouble w/the "stealing $10 million" bit and should just have been up front about it to the gov. BUT i'm pretty sure this topic is going to surface again and hopefully find Jin innocent of any wrong doing. i mean Jin was accused of stealing $200K, which is nothing compared to mcgarrett who took $10 million. and how did he know he grabbed $10 million? it's not like i saw him count it or even be sure what he was grabbing would = $10 million. Jin was framed by the "odders.. odders!"

oh i loved how that old lady is just standing in the middle of the street telling kono she is part of the neighborhood watch... and how questions why her van doesn't say "city and county" ... and how she notice that they "don't work very hard." GOL... seriously? how did she know it wasn't STATE workers? or BWS? don't assume it's the CITY!!! of course this is coming from a hard worker at the City... who is commenting on ed's blog. lol...

i def don't know anything about MMA, but i liked how danno was like, he didn't want to see his dinner clawed to death or something. and i like how mcgarrett compared cock fighting to tanning in jersey. ha ha ha...

  4. tweetpeep22:

oooh and about that secret blue prints to money lying around topic... it was very ocean's 11 wasn't it? you'd think danno would be okay w/it since he already had experience in it in the ocean's series... yes i know, i'm comparing apples and oranges.

  5. rayboyjr:

    :D :D :D :D :D Good Morning Err-One!!! :D :D :D :D :D

... hey Ed ... wait a minute ... you had choke errands to do at home??? ... you gots me confused ... errands at home??? ... don't you have to go somewhere for an errand??? ... nah ... just giving you a hard time ... but it does sound weird ...

... and btw ... if you had so much to do at home ... why were you watching Hawaii 5-0??? ... haha!!! ... just bustin' yer balls ... I do that all the time too ... watch tv WHILE doing something else ... bad way to watch tv though ... cause you miss a lot of stuff ...

... anyway, welcome back ... are ya RICHER from your road trip??? ...

    ... Have a Good One Everyone!!! ...

  6. che:

I missed most of 5-0 like the ending with the fire and the $10mm but I did see the hostess bar scene. That nothing like the hostess bars that my friends tell me about.

  7. rayboyjr:

    ... I've watched The Sing-Off ... and I have to admit it's a very entertaining show ...

... too bad it's only for a short run though ... I think after next weeks double elimination ... it's already the finals ... what's up with that??? ... didn't they think the show would generate enough interest to go for a longer run??? ...

... or just maybe ... they had to cut it short ... otherwise, they'd run up against IDOL in January ...

... but this is a totally different show compared to IDOL ... I mean, for one it's a group competition ... and the singers are awesome ... so polished ...

... I have to admit though ... as much as I love acapella ... I would prefer the occassional musical accompaniment ... something soft ... so they wouldn't have to do so much beatbox ...

  8. Chicken Grease:

Oi, head, how you know about Bar 35 :P. Hope you had a good trip.

Was pretty neat last night's episode. I still have this naggingness about how finite our space here is on the island for all type crime to be happening.

She's said it a few times already, but, the Goddess Grace Park is simply comes off greatly as a local girl who has seemingly been here for her whole life with her, "aunty" inflections. Are we surprised. No. Not surprised. Because she is a Goddess. That is all, indeed. When she runs, with that figure of hers and the gun on her waist. Oh, lordy (not to be confused with Jack).

THE best part last night was when Hesse gave instructions to McGarrett on where to meet . . . Hesse goes, in a very Scottish accent, "across from Farrington, in Waipahu"; yes, with the "r"s rolled Scottishly. Heh. Will we ever hear that in such accent again? Only on 5-0, I guess ;) .

Uh. The actual REAL best part of last night's ep' was the very last part (no, not the Christmas party part with all the 5-0 crew entertaining Danno's daughter and all; what in heck was that about, heh?) when, yes, as Ed has mentioned, when this 5-0's Wo Fat (Dacascos) finally makes his appearance in talking to Hesse at Halawa Correctional. VERY Dark Knight Batman reboot-like for 5-0. Hope the show plays its cards right with this one; I might very well end up believing so much nuanced crime happens here in these islands.

You're welcome, Ed. Anytime you must needs fill-ins. The Grease'll try to be a more happy joy-joy next time (if there IS a next time :| BHWHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHA HO HO HOOOOOOO, MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!)

  9. M:

    Welcome back Ed!

Chin Ho couldn't move or he'll blow up but he was moving his head and taking.

    Can you tell I'm happy?

  13. not a fan of csi miami:

Does anyone else hate how the colors of the background are starting to look like C.S.I. Miami? Hawai'i has awesome natural colors, not need for filters!

  14. Big pile of mediocrity:

long time no post. just saw that you commented about Sing Off and Aaron Rodgers injury.

Sing Off ... I was pleasantly surprised that they brought it back. i was worried for a little while that it would be a "one and done." this seasons crop is a lot better than last seasons. i don't think Nota would've won if they were on this season. I like Committed, but ... i'll leave it at that since you haven't watched the second and third episodes yet. can't wait for tonight's episode.

Fantasy football ... depressing year. was tied for a playoff spot in my money league but lost out because i lost head-to-head to the guy with the most overall points. the other league ... ending up with the most overall points, but just so happens my opponents averaged 142.5 points/week. (with no bonus points) sad times, but count me in for next season too if you have enough teams.

H 5-0... the only thing i took away from this week's episode ... how you can take the Pali, go into the tunnel, and somehow magically end up in Kahuku. i'm also wondering if most of the shooting done outside is somewhere along Waimanalo. is it just me or do all the coastal shots look like it's along Waimanalo?

Cliff Lee to the Phils ... how's that for a "mystery" team in the negotiations. looks like we got two pretty tough teams come next spring ... Philly and Boston (great addition of Adrian Gonzales ... we'll see how Carl Crawford turns out).

You're gonna lose your tita moniker pretty soon if you keep it up! ;)

Guess they're just trying to use a formula that works to stay on the air. But yeah Hawaii doesn't need filters fo sho! BTW welcome to the blog! :)

Yeah, wea you been? Da alright. I seen you in our fantasy league. Haha! Speaking of which tough luck man. With your average, you should've been #1. Just bad matchups! :(
