OK so I lied when I said that my "Christmas Lights in Kapolei" blog was the last post of the year, but there's a good reason for disturbing your peace and quiet this holiday season. *grin*

You see, Tokkuri-Tei, my favorite restaurant on the planet, has moved, and tonight is the grand re-opening at their new location: 449 Kapahulu (the old Sam Choy's/Sergio's/Ranch House, above Hee Hing).

This post was made with equal parts of the following in mind:

• inform you of the move (not everyone knows yet)
• invite you down to come eat with us tonight
• support Santa, Kazu, & the rest of the Tokkuri-Tei posse on this new chapter in their lives
• encourage you to give them a try (once is all you need to get hooked) or

So da oddah week, wifey and I went to a first birthday party at the Kapolei Rec Center (Happy Birthday Tori!)... On the way home, we noticed some bright lights shining up a storm across the street. Curious, we went to go check um out, and...

HOOOOOOOOOO! (HO HO!)

Good thing we did! Buggah was NUTS!

Apparently this (normally) unassuming cul-de-sac on Hanapaa Street gets into the holiday spirit like no other, every single year. And it's not just one house... several of the houses go all out to provide some nice "Honolulu City Lights" action, only, it's in Kapolei. Below are some shots from that night to help get you in the mood for Christmas this week...

I spoke with the owner of one of the houses and she said that they've been doing it for many years... Since their kids were small kid time, and they are all young adults now. With no tip jar in sight, they leave benches and hot chocolate out for anyone and everyone to enjoy... for free! When I asked how much their electric bill was for the month, she said, "About $1,100, but it's ok, we prepare for this all year..."

Wow, talk about sharing the Aloha. Mahaloz Hanapaa Street residents... Mahalo!

I had CHOKE errands to do at home last night so I was finally able to sit down and watch an episode of Hawaii Five-0 in real time. And what better way to "watch" it than to join in on the #H50 convos going on simultaneously in the Twitterverse right?

Last night's episode was called "Hana `A`a Makehewa", which translates to Desperate Measures. Here's the show's synopsis:

"It's Christmas in Hawaii, but instead of celebrating, Five-0 is negotiating a hostage situation when Victor Hesse, the man who killed McGarrett's father, threatens to detonate an explosive that he's strapped to Chin Ho's chest."

So wot? What'd you guys think?

Some possible talking points for us:

• How sad was Danno's Christmas tree? Hehe!
• "Your house, your king's English." LOL!
• Ikalani = Ihilani?
• Chin Ho's use of rice to pull the moisture off the SIM card. Gooooo @ricefest, er rice!
• Was that local MMA Fighter Harris Sarmiento in the chicken fight scene? First Niko Vitale and now him. Casting directors must be MMA fans! Sweet!
• Danno's hilarious quote, "Next time, shoot him in the face!"
• Danno calling Sang Min (Will Yun Lee) the "Asian John Travolta". LOL!
• Since when was Bar 35 a private hostess bar in Nu`uanu?
• Was that an Android app that they used to track Sang's ankle tracker? DROID!
• Do coppers really have 28.5 mill just lying around like that in a secret asset forfeiture locker? If so, can somebody make me a copy of that blueprint please?
• I've swear we've all had a run in with a niele ol' lady like that no!?
• Wasn't it just off hearing Chin Ho tell Kono "aloha" in that context? Didn't care for that usage very much...
• I almost cried seeing da $10 mill go bye bye in the fire. LOL!
• Loved Na Leo reppin' it with their Christmas song Kana Kaloka (Here Comes Santa Claus)!
• How about another former local boy sighting with Mark Dacascos as the evil villain Wo Fat?

• Finally catching up with my show The Sing-Off and watched back the first episode of this new season off my DVR. Woah! Committed's rendition of Maroon 5's "This Love" was off the chain!
• Cliff Lee is heading back to my Phills son! Awwww yeah!
• Any other Fantasy Football teams out there hurt this week by the Aaron Rodgers concussion dammit!?

Every Christmas season, I'm in search of that great grab bag gift. Of course, everyone as their own opinion of a great gift. I would appreciate Claire Robinson's “5-Ingredient Fix” cookbook, but really, would the next person? The buying is a little easier when you know the crowd you are buying for - a group of friends or family members. But, what do you when you need a generic unisex gift? Would guys go gaga over the latest eco-friendly tote bag, Hawaiian printed insulated lunch bag, or pretty coffee cup. Or, ladies over that Black Friday-acquired flashlight, tape measure, or screwdriver set? Probably not.

What about grab bag games? What's you favorite? Personally, I love the cut-throat version. That's where you have the option of either stealing another's gift or selecting a new gift from the pile. Don't you feel proud when it's your gift that's being stolen over and over? And, at least with this game, there is a better chance that you get a gift you like; and, not something that gets re-gifted for next year.

What do you when there are more people than grab bag gifts? The obvious answer would be that the person who didn't bring a gift doesn't participate. But, what if you don't know who the non-gifter is? As party host, are you required to put in the missing gift; or opt out of the exchange?

And, when it's stated to bring a $10 gift – that means $10, not less, right?

Please share any grab bag ideas/suggestions you may have. At this point, a gift card to the ever-popular Costco or Longs is looking great. I'm just wondering if I should disguise the gift-wrapping somehow.
