Elephant, Heart & Soul, and Five-0 [VIDEOS]

These Tuesday posts are getting later and later yeah? Before you know it, da buggah goin' run into our Where In Hawaii Wednesday post. Oh well, better late than never ah?

So I guess it's obvious that I nevah watched Hawaii Five-0 live last night - hence the lack of a Five-0 post - but feel free to use the comment area below to chat up about the show with your fellow peeps anyway. I heard rap singer Nas made an appearance. Hah?

---

This weekend, I attended two events that had some killah live music and I wanted to post some videos I took to showcase the local talent we have here in Hawaii.

The first one is of a rock band called Elephant (who performs every Saturday from 9pm-2am at the Irish Rose Saloon in Waikiki). Lead man Kevin Jones is a talented DJ for Star 101.9FM, a better singer/rock star, and an even better friend. Check out Elephant performing a cover of Prince's "When Doves Cry" below.

---

The second band is called Heart & Soul, comprising of two talented ukulele players: Chris Salvador and my buddy Jody Kamisato. I recently featured Jody (and other fellow Kaiser High grads) in my November AroundHawaii article: "Cougar Pride - Three Kaiser High Grads Making a Difference"). Jody is the owner and head instructor at Ukulele Hale, and Chris is a young, but talented player with sick vocal skills. Below is a short clip of them covering Pure Heart's "How Can I Get Over?" at their recent CD Release Celebration Party at Gordon Biersch at the Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Here's a little bonus cut from one of my favorite Youtube singers, an obvious ode to John Tyner's experience with the TSA. OMG Hilarious!

David Choi - "Please Don't Touch My Junk"

Kay, das all. Have a good Tuesday yo! :)

arggg... i was waiting for a hawaii five-o post. it was a good episode... not so "shoot 'em up" but more fighting. the end fighting scenes were good... plus from my office window, i saw them filming part of that bike race scenes. all the guys had their nose pressed to the glass windows watching grace park on the roof. lol...

btw, my dad was at the CD release party for that group this past sunday! his friends w/the mom of one of the boys! lol...

    :D :D :D :D :D Good Morning!!! :D :D :D :D :D

... hey Ed ... where da heck this post came from??? ... sorry braddah, much too much too late and I missed it ... but can't see the vids anyways ...

... but I am a regular Hawaii 5-0 watcher ... I thought last night's show was good ... writing has gotten better ... as plot lines are not that predictable as before ... and is this still sweeps period??? ... because McGarrett AND Kono both undressed ... well, Kono wasn't as revealing as she's been in the past ... but I'll take anything!!! ... haha!!! ...

... didn't really notice that was Nas ... but had to be the ex-con who was violating parole ...

... I did notice another former news anchor ... Diane Ako ... but they should've incorporated her scene better into the flow of the show, though ... it was kinda strange that a news team was at the hospital ... I mean do they ever really shoot news reports at a hospital like that??? ... I think even reporters respects victims privacy there ... oh well ...

    ...Have a Good One!!! ...

  4. tweetpeep22:

@rayboyjr... i agree, the writing is getting better and not soo cheesy and predictable! :)

i was paying attention to the opening credits so i knew nas was on that night along w/bijou phillips whose part was very very minimal... they couldn't get a local person for the preggers role? it's not like her name draws much notice i think.

    ugh diane ako... lol...

  5. HNL2LAS:

whooo hoooo! YAY Ed, I got to see your video of Elephant! uhmm was that at Irish Rose? If so, it looks so different! The guys seem so subdued in this video, bahhah! Are they playing on Sundays now?? I always watched them on Saturdays! Thanks for sharing!!! heehee..

Hawaii 5-0: I fell asleep during the "get the bad guys" part and woke up right before the end.. bahhah! dang.. I didn't know that was Nas... I was happy to see Diane Ako though!

  6. HNL2LAS:

ooooh never mind... I see the other pix.. RR Music hall huh?

  7. rayboyjr:

@HNL2LAS ... hey there ... been a while since I've seen you posting ... hope everythings going well up there ... wish I were there ...

@tweetpeep22 ... hahaha! ... I don't pay attention to the opening credits ... anyway, they had the scene with the big "shave ice" guy ... luv his character!!! ... was paying attention to his dialogue with McGarrett ... funny ...

... one more thing about the show ... don't know if it's just me ... but I've noticed they always seem to end the show on an emotional note ... pride, friends, family, etc. ... that would tug on your heart strings ... maybe I'm more emotional that other guys ... but it really gives me a sense of connection to the show ... 'cause I feel it ...

... whoa ... did I just write that??? ... didn't I forget to mention that Kono is hot as ever??? ... ;)

  8. tweetpeep22:

@rayboyjr... hilarious... you're spilling your guts out on ed's blog, classic. but honestly, i never noticed that "emotional note" tho.

the witty banter between mcgarrett and waiola shave ice guy was good... but you notice how many iphones mcgarrett goes thru? this past episode he let hawaiian biggie smalls keep it after he was sitting on it for a while and in a previous episode w/adam beach, adam's character throws mcgarrett's phone in the ocean. on top of that, all his phones have been iphone 4s!!!

I dunno, I grabbed that info off the Irish Rose site. I should double-check with Kevin on that one. But no, that was at the Road Runner Music Hall, at our AroundHawaii Columnists' Holiday Party. Pretty cool venue yeah?
