News Day Tuesday: Elect Bruno Five-0

September 21st, 2010
By

Wow, lots of big Hawaii news as of late. From the election results, to Bruno Mars getting busted for cocaine, to the premiere of Hawaii Five-0. Thought it might be time to dust off "News Day Tuesday" for all y'all to sound off on some of these topics. Holla!

* Election Results?
- Pretty much went how I thought it would.

* Bruno Mars?
- Pretty disappointing. I was interesting in trying to line him up for an interview, but not so much anymore...

* Hawaii Five-0?
- I unfortunately had plans last night and missed it, but hope it does well for the sake of the state. Will definitely try to catch the next one.

* Top Chef?
- I know, I know, it's not really Hawaii related and the season is already pau, but you guys always seem to wanna talk about it so hear ya go! LOL!

P.S. In case you missed it: Scenes from the Rice Fest! ;)
P.P.S. Here's Mars' latest single: Just the Way You Are. Good shtuff nonetheless. :P

  1. Chicken Grease:

    re: Bruno, yeah, I dunno. Sickening all these Generation Y or Generation I- and game console is getting into the kinda' stuff us Gen X folk somehow greatly avoided (I dunno any of my classmates who got into that kinda' thing; and I dunno how to get "the stuff" if I tried). Ah, no matter. If the generation after mine is wasted, more job security for me. Yeah, no interview that guy after his rightful day in court (and, I mean, with that grin he sports in that mug shot heard 'round the 'net, I mean, can the guy be innocent? Methinks no). Aloha means goodbye Bruno.

    I liked the Hawaii 5-0 redux. Must admit what's lingering in a Grease's noggin's that the show kinda' displayed an "HPD" on the more seedier side, with them disbelieving a DDK (and, I saw the expression on an Ain't-It-Cool 'site comment section, and a Grease also has a man crush on a Daniel Dae Kim. I yearn to build a chest like his, as seen in a Lost episode, which a Grease was surprised to have seen as he has viewed only, oh, 3, 4 eps of that tanker. Sideways reality, mein Gott, I mean, really. I digress), which shows, at the very least, maybe, I dunno, some kind of verification wasn't done — I mean, we viewers are with McGarrett in not expecting a Chin Ho to have stolen money, no? — to the gov'ner seemingly needing a "task force" to handle crimes on an island where (this is admitted in last night's episode) the "good guys know who the bad guys are" and less than a million folk here; can't the regular police force handle that as well as they do in real life (I feel safe here on this hea island). But, I supposeth HPD's reputation, as has been started in the show, will be much more enhanced as the series goes on (and I hope will go on much longer than a Lost did) as much as the original series helped do as well.

    A Grease pumped his fist during McGarrett's interrogation of the Will Eun Lee (Will Eun Lee was here in the islands? Oh, you betcha! Loved his accent for his character, too) . . . after a point earlier in the Grease's life somehow thinking of 5-0 (most probably when talk of a 5-0 film, "Hawaii 5-0: Day of Infamy" if I'm not mistaken), I started to figure, now, hold on, 5-0 is basically a finitely member'd state police force . . . why wouldn't they be too dissimilar from, say, the likes of such state police that you'd find via Kafka or view of such ilk of, say, Stassi or SS via The History Channel? Well, new McGarrettt didn't disappoint!!! You GO, commander, with your threatening to deport criminal and his family in order to get info'! I'm not being sarcastic here, I LOVED seeing that; except for the intricate questioning techniques of a Pendleton in Homicide: Life on the Street, I have never seen leaning ons by TV detective so rich in extracting information from criminals who must most certainly know.

    Love the character of this McGarrettt . . . like he stepped out of a Clancy novel or something. ex-Navy Seals, ex-Navy intelligence. I mean, Magnum (P.I.) was the first Hawaii crime-fighter to be this, but, I think you can expect more martial arts from this character. Coolness, can fight crime mean-like.

    And, last, but, not least (not leaving out Scott Caan who, as I agree with Joe Moore's assessment last night [and if I were Joe Moore's boss at KHON, I woulda' said, "uh, don't mention '5-0'; we have nice Two and 1/2 Men reruns leading into the news; mention that instead or . . . or maybe you want to go back to work for KGMB?"], features mannerisms reminiscent of his The Godfather dad, James. And, while "Dan-O" use is explained, I'm not entirely convinced how McGarrettt would end up saying "Book 'em Danno" in each ep'; guess we'll have to find out) . . . goddess Grace Park. Simply goddess. They could show a solid hour of her just walking around Hawaii and call it Hawaii 5-0: Goddess Grace Park and would be a ratings hit. Spin-off time. Oh, and one more thing . . . I, uh, The Grease loved seeing The Goddess Grace Park on this show. That alone will make me watch this show. Forever. Write down, please: The Goddess Grace Park. She is worthy of a million Rosette rant . . . The Goddess Grace Park. If The Goddess Grace Park is reading this, please contact Ed in order to get in touch with The Grease. Thank you.

    I really love this show and its potential. I used to wonder how realistic the whole idea of crime TV shows, movies, novels (all of which I seek out) in Hawaii, much less on its best island, Oahu . . . I mean, unlike other places, we CAN feel safe walking around late at night, well, maybe not in certain downtown areas whose name also ends in -town, but, a Grease digresses again. But, that is EXACTLY why I love the notion . . . that such a limited area (I mean, look on the map . . . we hardly populate the majority of the island, no?), the idea of crooks, international spies, and the like can exists greatly enough for a state investigation team to be formulated, enough crime for weekly episodes and such.

    I understand they're giving McGarrettt a pickup to drive. No, no, no, gotta give him something cooler. I dunno. Cannot be a Ferrari (concept owned by said Magnum). CSI: Miami owns Humvee use. CSI has got use of other sport ut' vehicles, which are going out of style anyways. should give 'em all Kamen Rider cycles would be überest.

    And I loved out the election turned out, by the way. All the right people won.

  2. Chicken Grease:

    Oh. Looks like a brotha' is FIRST in posting on a WWE blog kyoo wa. Call a Grease Hawaii 1st-0, yessir.

  3. tita leerz:

    oh wow, CEEG, das one dissertation! lol! good read. :)

    Bruno-still wants to impersonate elvis.

    5-0:
    -Please tell me where Kukui High School is.
    -Why they named the asian mullet guy who looks like Rob Schneider "Sai Min"---at least that's what it sounded like.
    -Goddess Grace Park needs to take some kick boxing classes or something...something!
    -Spike is not dead....they didn't show his body getting fished out of the harbor.

    overall, i liked it...i hope the fight scenes get better.

  4. Kel Sr.:

    Hi Ed,

    Yep, DRUGS is all around, affecting anyone who wants it!

    Now, as for your generation, I think your group (gang) turned out well, don't you think so?

    All of you Kaiser High School/University of Hawaii guys and gals turned out pretty good, right? No Bruno types, right?

    As for Hawaii Five-O, I missed it too! Hope Chicken Grease likes "Kelly Hu" too, as she is scheduled to be on Hawaii Five-O!

    I like the phase "Book-um Ed", rather than Book-um Danno.

    JR. took in the Chargers game on Sunday in San Diego (boy what timing, the Chargers had a great offensive game).

    Have a wonderful day!

    Sr.

  5. tita leerz:

    ... hey Ed ... first off ... congrats on putting together the Rice Fest ... looks like it was a great event!!! ... it kinda amazes me ... that, as probably the nations biggest rice eaters ... Hawaii didn't have such an event already!!! ... or did we??? ... I don't know ... I guess it's because we don't actually grow the rice here ... we just eat a lot of it ...

    ... and another thing ... luv your humility ... in highlighting your sis as "Hawaii News Now's Minna Sugimoto" ... if it was me ... I'd be all over touting my sister every chance I got ... and show the family pride!!! ... or is it because you have to stay objective??? ...

    ... anyway ... if I haven't mentioned it before ... BEEG props to you on a great job!!! ...

    ... Have a Good One Eveyone!!! ...

  13. rayboyjr:

    @Rosette ... haha!!! ... that would be weird ... but those lyrics are wrong ...

    ... supposed to be LIPS ... not nails ...

    Her LIPS, her LIPS
    I could kiss them all day if she'd let me

  14. Chicken Grease:

    I dunno how he goin' become a billionaire at this rate, bwahahahahah!!!! :|

  15. rayboyjr:

    * Election Results?
    ... now Ed ... you should know, that politics and religion are tough subjects to discuss ... with anyone else who doesn't have the same beliefs as you do ...

    * Bruno Mars?
    ... not really surprised ... and not really disappointed ... because I don't hold entertainers to any higher standard ... I'm surprised that more people aren't caught ... I'm more amused at the way he got caught ... makes me think that he got some empty space under that cool hat he wears ...

    * Hawaii Five-0?
    ... watched it ... it was ok ... but a little slow in parts ... I think it got pretty good reviews ... loved the movie feel to it ... and of course, the gratuitous shots of Grace Park ... yeeee hawwww

    * Top Chef?
    ... didn't mind any of the top 3 winning ... thought the white dude would win ... can't think of his name ...

  16. Rosette:

    @rayboyjr: yes funny...Her LIPS, her LIPS.....I fall for that nail thing.....!

  17. Rosette:

    you think the guy would put that white powder ..inside his pants....you think he is in the toilet he flush it down.....how on earth the guy be standing in the toilet ...inside the toilet with the other guy...omg...

  18. Rosette:

    yes sorry but his white powder is for my butt....OMG I LAUGH!

  19. tita leerz:

    Elvis...yes I did.

    BTW, someone went and page a FB fan site for Kukui High School
    http://www.facebook.com/kukuihigh

  20. che:

    You can't go wrong having Zulu (Grace Park) in a bikini. I thought Hawaii 5-0 was good but I will need to see more shows to know if it's a must watch for me like Top Chef. It was a shocker that Kevin won. the other 2 chefs were better throughout the season but he saved his best for the finals.

  21. NeedaHobby:

    Five-O: enjoyed the show. Chin-Ho and the other actors gotta work on their "bird". Also, they gotta work on their pronounciation of Honolulu - sounds funny. @tita - it sounded like "Sai Min" to me too.

    Top Chef: not sure why Ed decided not to make his own dessert! Didn't he learn from past seasons? Liked Kevin's response when he was announced the winner, "I am?" Classic.

  22. kuya.d:

    @Leerz - there's also a Twitter feed for @KukuiHigh. They the "NUTS" ... get it?

  23. kuya.d:

    5-0 was a zer-0 ... just my opinion.

  24. kuya.d:

    @Rosette - good idea, Ed should interview Bruno Mars ... ask the guy why he had to be one babooze? Such talent, poor choices.

  25. kuya.d:

    Regarding Top Chef, Ed lost because he didn't have Hung or Voltaggio as sous chef ... Those two worked it.
