Fave Friday - Weekend Activities

April 30th, 2010
By

So this weekend for me, as it is for most of us I'm sure, is a pretty hectic one. Here's just a snippet of what's goin' down (down down down down) in one day:

* 6AM - Since tomorrow lands on the 1st of the month, I will be going in early to work to take care of some of our monthly updates for our web presences.
* 8AM - Back home to sleep (but, in reality, probably not)
* 10AM-ish - Head to Sears to get a part for our dryer
* 11AM-ish - I really shouldn't, but I might want to take a peek at the new Droid Incredible by HTC (if I didn't already buy it by the time this post goes live *evil grin*), which was just released to the public yesterday.
* 1PM - Meeting with Broker to discuss some options for my Real Estate license.
* 3PM - UH Baseball game (possibly) See note below for FREE tickets!
* 6PM - Was asked by a friend to cover the Galaxy MMA event at the Blaisdell (see details at bottom).
* 9PM-ish - Out with some friends after (possibly)

Some of these are chores/errands, some are for fun. Some is for work, some personal... Ideally, the weekends are supposed to be used to relax, but it never seems to work out that way yeah? So hurr's our Fave Friday topic for this week:

If you could do anything you wanted
for an entire weekend,
what would you do and why?

I would probably just relax at home in my underwear and eat pizza and watch TV all day. TMI? Haha, nah, nah, das gross! I would probably just want to take a neighbor island trip with wifey and simply unwind. Turn off the cell phone, sit on the beach, eat good grindz, and just chill. Those Corona commercials on the beach always make me jealous! Lottery, where are you? :P

So what about you? What would you do?

Local boy Junk and Brazilian Scherner have both competed in the UFC and have something to prove in the main event.

For the Co-Main Event, although I love Tyson Nam's fighting style, I gotta pull for Keola Silva. Ola was our resident wrestling expert when I was training stand-up at HMC, and an overall good guy. Here's some info about him, as told by a couple of his peers:

"He is a school teacher and a coach for wrestling at Kamehameha High school...he also dedicates a lot of time to teaching a wrestling class out of HMC and was there this week to teach even though he has his fight coming up...Ola is the kind of guy that puts himself and everything on the side to help out his students and friends..."
- Kevin Yoshida (HMC owner/sensei)

"Ola has the innate ability to simplify the most complex wrestling moves so that even a person who has NO wrestling experience will understand. His talent does not only lie within his coaching, though. He can speak Hawaiian, has weekly music gigs at Blue Ocean Thai, and recently received his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Leandro Nyza. Overall, he's just an awesome person to know and an even better training partner. He proves to you that you can turn your "can'ts" into "cans." If can, can. If no can, you still can!"
- Lea Young (fellow HMC student)

Can't forget to also send some love to my high school classmate Todd Tanaka and his school Team HK, who will have two fighters (Zack Pang and Chris Templo) represented in the amateur bouts. Templo will actually be fighting HMC's Ryan Clay. Shmall kine torn on that one. ;)

Anyway, good luck to all fighters and, most importantly, be safe.

I'm working this weekend, but Fridays are, most of the time, Yard House Happy Hour Fridays! Hands down the best happy hour place in Hawaii when you consider atmosphere, food and price.

My perfect lost weekend? Pizza, diet pepsi and a Battlestar Galactica Blu Ray marathon.

  2. kuya.d:

My idea of a relaxing weekend - All I need is the NFL and pipikaula, guacamole and chips, karaage chicken, root beer ... And some pool time!

  3. kuya.d:

I'm sorry but we have MMA events every week in Hilo. Last week it was "Just Scrap" and this week "Unorthodox Industries" ... It's getting played out.

  5. Scott:

    damn I miss Yardhouse!
I start a new job on Monday, so I'm studying for that this weekend. However, I just joined the local country club and my membership starts tomorrow, so I'm playing my first round on Sunday :)

  6. M:

    Hello Ed!

I'm going standup paddling this weekend like all the other weekends... :)

  7. che:

The pizza and TV thing sounds good to me but not in my underwear. I would like to do it at a beach house. For some reason sleeping seems to be better in more secluded areas.

At least your weekend sounds fun. I'm in a battle (going on for 2 days) with a bush stump. I cut all the braches off but I can't find the big ax to cut all the roots and split the stump. All I could find is small hand ax. I'm not stubborn (or maybe I am) but it's turned into a battle of wills (and I'm losing to a stump). I could drive to City Mill and buy an ax but now it's personal and I have to take it out with the hand ax (I don't know why).

    Anyway have a good one.

"I would probably just relax at home in my underwear and eat pizza and watch TV all day."

... hahaha!!! ... you took the words right out of my mouth ... and you could substitute any salty, greasy, sugary food/snack in there ... funny, but I always associate relaxing at home ... with lounging around in my underwear ...

... the ideal weekend for me??? ... would happen on a football weekend of course!!! ... don't think I should elaborate ... for it will confirm the lazy bum I become once the football season rolls around!!! :D ...

... there are a lot of other productive things I could do ... but why waste a good weekend on that?!! ;) ...

    ... Have a Good One Everyone!!! ...

    kay-den, my perfeck weekend..

firs' of all, i'd fly home to spend time with family in Hawaii, but only for a minute..

I'd eat some guud poke from Safeway Kailua with some Heines..

I'd watch the Pills beat up on da Mets once or twice..

    I'd read a good book..

I'd have my Big Little Bro (Andy Reed) cook dinner on da hibachi with some steaks korean-style, some fish local-style, and planty rice..

I'd have some Ted's Haupia/Choco pie dat I pick up from Holiday Mart Kailua (or whatever dey calling it now)..

I'd take the dog for walk on the 6th fairway at Mid-Pac in da moonlight..

And I'd fall asleep with a smile on my face (which will hurt in the morning if i'm not careful)..

    hooo-eeee dat's one sweet plan..

A great weekend usually involves food, sports, movies and ...what's that 3 letter word? ...laf! So let's see, how 'bout a very competitive and well-played doubles match in the morning followed by grilled oysters, poke, beer and mild teasing of your friends because you beat them 7-6, 6-7, 7-6. Nap. Then watch blu-ray of "Red Cliff" on your latest 55" LED HDTV and home theater sound system. Nap. Pasta and fine pinot noir wine dinner with family, kids and grandkids. Watch UH basketball beat Nevada for WAC championship, Bill Amis scoring 35, everyone wearing white and going ballistic. Finally, having good laf, falling asleep exhausted, then wife waking you up from your fantasy reminding you to take out the garbage...oh well, can dream, right?

  20. kuya.d:

How about this? ... Think Corona commercial. Love the two seats by the beach with the bucket of ice cold beverages.

  21. oldshoes:

i would clip my toenail, trim my nosehair, and of course shave the ear hair.Just glad i dont have to shave back hair.....that would probably require a whole weeks vacation.

  22. uncle jimmy:

yeah, but only paint back in Da Mokuluas dat dey painted out da background..

an' make it one keee-ewt local girl instead of da haole chick dat squirts you wit' da lemon.. den you good to go..

dat pahty will def go down event-chally, but, Edward, an' you an' da whole WWE gang will definintely get invitational..

  23. uncle jimmy:

sorry, eh, it's not dat i can not spell..

it's dat i no mo' ken see..
