Pants On the Ground
By World Wide Ed
The real title was actually "Fave Friday: Comedians" for dis one, but I just had to...
(see bottom if you have no idea what I'm talking about).
In Wednesday's blog, some of you peeps started talking about old school joints like Gems or Holiday Mart/Daiei, etc., and it made me want to blog about it. Unfortunately, I beat myself to the punch. LOL! Shmall kine forgot that I already did um befo'! *blush*
Instead, let's do a somewhat newsworthy one. Comic legend Bill Cosby is in town for a couple of shows this weekend. Is he one of your faves? Let's list ours up. Hurr's mine:
* Jim Gaffigan - my all time favorite! Wifey bought us tickets when he came to town. HILARIOUS! He also seemed like a nice guy too when we met him to take photos after the show.
* Dave Chappelle - a close second! I would sooooo go watch him if he came here. I'm proud to say that I was his fan way before he blew up. ![]()
* Ellen DeGeneres - smart, witty, and most importantly funny! Seems genuine too! Loves it!
* Chris Rock - edgy, funny, a little racist though. LOL! Love his comedy specials!
* Martin Lawrence - ditto the above. Wonder what he's up to these days. Mah-innnn!
* Dane Cook - used to be one of my fave plays on my iPod. Popularity seems to have majorly plummeted(?)...
* Brian Regan - old school comic that used to make me laugh on Letterman.
* Paula Poundstone - another old school comic. Actually dragged some friends to go watch her when she was doing a show at Pipeline. LOL!
A shout out to our local comics too:
* Rap Reiplinger - Auntie Marialani's Cooking Show is an all-time classic!
* Andy Bumatai - All In the `Ohana still makes me crack up!!!
* Paul Ogata - my fellow Asian brutha!
* Frank DeLima - da originato!
* Augie T - nu skool (kinda)!
* Bu La`ia - wea he stay?
* Mel Cabang - old school, but still funny.
Need help? Check out this list from Wikipedia.
Tanioaka's Interview
On a side note, I'm scheduled to meet with the good folks at Tanioka's on Monday for a short interview for Part II of my up-coming "Poke Paradise" article (read Part I here). If you have any questions you'd like me to ask, lemme know! Also, if you have any suggestions on what poke you think I should try from there, let me know too!
Talk to me!
* Post your fave comic(s) below.
* Please help me congradumalate my sis for her good play at the Sony Open Pro-Am da odda day. She played with David Toms, and, from what she tells me, he's a real southern gentleman type. Gotta love those celebs/athletes who keeps it real! Goooo David! (Read her blog about it here.)
* Again, if ya gots any questions you'd like me to ask to the Taniokas, holla!
* Any American Idol chatter out dea? I really liked Jermaine Sellers (for his voice), Skiibo Ski (for his personality), and most importantly, General Larry Platt (for his lyrical geniusness!).
Shoots! Have a great weekend y'all! See ya on the flipside!

My favorite comedians are all dead...died laughing? Actually from what I've read or hear interviews, many comedians lead pretty difficult lives and comedy was a way to cope. I enjoyed: Jack Benny, George Burns, Red Skelton, John Belushi, Andy Kaufman, George Carlin, and Richard Pryor.
Ask the Tanioka's what the recipe for their cone sushi sauce? My sister-in-law was their sushi maker for a few years until she quit after illness. She would make that sushi at home and would not tell anyone the recipe, not even her daughter. She was loyal to the Taniokas and took that recipe to her grave. Actually I know the Tanioka family ever since Justin and my son played soccer together, Mel was a long time coach in the community. His store was in Mililani before they relocated to Waipahu. They are good people and happy for their success...smart and hard working.

David in Oregon, good one. Rap was very funny.
Old Richard Pryor tapes were hilarious. I like those 4 guys who do that Country tour similar to those Kings of Comedy guys.
Dave Chappelle is good, his interview on Inside the Actors studio made me a fan.
For old school, Flip Wilson was funny.

Rap is by far IMHO the best local comedian. Edgy and not afraid to push the envelope of pc. Simon was right about the General, Just heard a local radio station spoofing "Pants on the Ground"
January 15th, 2010 at 7:41 am
...looking like a fool with your pants on the ground...
Also agree with David in Oregon w/ Rap. Room service was hilarious! Also, like Da Bruddahs.
Agree with you on Bill Cosby - would you like some chocolate cake for breakfast?
For other comics, I like Conan (sad that he's getting jerked around by NBC), Wanda Sykes, and the late Chris Farley - that motivational skit on SNL was too funny!
January 15th, 2010 at 8:13 am
Richard Pryor and George Carlin, hands down are best to me. I also like Zack Galifianakis.
January 15th, 2010 at 9:48 am
I used to like Carlos Mencia but after awhile, he not funny and just comes across angry.
Rex Navarett and Joy Guila for the Filipino comedians but I think I've heard'm all too many times over.
Although, you ever watch when Spike TV roast people? Hella funny. Brutal, racy...but funny.
January 15th, 2010 at 9:55 am
I watch Eddie Murphy vids from the 80's on youtube. They're so bad but so funny! His spoof of gays and Elvis is priceless.

... I think I'm more partial to the black comedians ... for whatever reason, I get that type of comedy more than any other ... I enjoy that take on life, I guess ... luv the Eddie Murphy's, Chris Rock's and Dave Chappelle's of the comedy world ...

January 15th, 2010 at 2:42 pm
One of the funniest videos I've seen, was an SNL skit featuring Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze. They were both auditioning to become the next Chippendales dancer.
January 15th, 2010 at 5:28 pm
DIO OMG! I remember that episode! That was free ken he larry yus!
January 15th, 2010 at 6:39 pm
Freddie Prinze Sr. was also a gifted comedian. He died way too young.
Bob Hope, Groucho Marx, Carol Burnett, Phyllis Diller also good.
January 15th, 2010 at 8:03 pm
oh, another one I forgot, "Mr. Warmth" Don Rickles. I don't know how that guy gets away with it, but he just "kills" everyone. No one is safe, not his wife, not the members of the band, not the audience, no one. You can watch his Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project on Hulu.
January 16th, 2010 at 8:32 pm
@tita leerz. You crack me up too!
Just by listening to Rap, you know da braddah was on something. There's no way you can come up with that stuff sober.
When Pee Wee Herman first came out I saw him on a show called the Young Comedians. It was so different and off the wall funny. I even used to watch the Pee Wee Herman Show. Of course he went on to that infamous movie theatre incident.
January 17th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
He's in a new movie too. His facial expressions alone cracks me up!
He's hard to listen to on the radio.
LOL! Actually I gotta try hahd, and still yet, not very funny!
Teach me how beej!
Mahaloz beej. She had one blast!
Wahoo!
Wow, didn't realize he was in all those! Awesome EMMbot!
Good story yeah pinky?
All good choices D.O.!
I remember that one! LOL! Farley's physical humor was nuts!
Yup yup! LOL!
Ho, going old school on us yeah Pu!
Freddie Prinze Jr. was actually on Jimmy Kimmel recently...
I like him too. Should check out that one you're talking about though. Sounds like a spleen buster.
Didn't know he did stand up. Must've been shmall kine off yeah Dubbs?
