Fave Friday: Mate Traits
By World Wide Ed
Kay, I'm gonna get shmall kine heat for this one from the fellas out dea, but since it's one year anniversary time for yours truly and the lady friend wifey, here's a mushy topic for us to chat about today (sorry boyz!).
There's a new song out on the radio by former American Idol finalist Jason Castro called "Let's Just Fall In Love Again" (see video and lyrics below). It's pretty catchy and, dare I say, cute (*cringe*), but more importantly, the lyrics teach us a nice little lesson about love and how to keep that fire a burnin' with your mate of many years.
We've probably got peeps up in hurr who've been married for decades, newlyweds, and even the singles (heyyyy!) looking for love, so along those lines, let's post our favorite traits of our mates for a fun little Fave Friday listing.
To all y'all singles, your job is funner. List the traits you traditionally look for in a future mate. And fellas, please use "Pager Talk" like 58008 if you're gonna be pervy! Ahahahaha! Nah! Let's do this!
- Cute (inside and out)- I may've mentioned this before, but a wise man (my friend) once told me: "Pretty is temporary, cute lasts forever." Word.
- Supportive - whatever I wish to pursue (Tin Man, getting my real estate license, interviews with celebs, etc.) she's always so supportive.
- Down- is always up for something fun and spontaneous (sports, new restaurants, etc.) and rarely monkus about it. Game for almost anything, as long as it's with me. Awwww.
- Tries Hard - no matter what it is, she tries her best to improve and impress.
- Well Liked/Lovable- whether it's my friends, family, co-workers, etc., she can get along with any of 'em. And they all loooove her. At least that's what they tell me.
Now for the fun list. If I were to put myself in the place of a single person, I'd probably look for the following:
- Smile - shows that they're nice (usually).
- Honesty - liars are out like trout.
- Genuine- can't stand fakeness.
- Thoughtfulness - shows that they're interested in you.
- 58008- Bwahahahahaha! Sorry, I just had to.
So what about you bu? No be shame 'cause remember, this post is mushy to begin with.
Post away!
Jason Castro - Let's Just Fall In Love Again
Let's pretend baby
That you've just met me
And I've never seen you before
I'll tell all my friends
That I think you're starin'
And you say the same to yours
And oh, we'll dance around it all night
And then I'll follow you outside
And try to open up my mouth
And nothing comes out right
And I wanna fall in love with you again
I don't have to try
It's so easy
Who needs to pretend?
But because it's so funny
Let's just think about it honey
Let's just fall in love again
I'll call you in three days
Not too soon, not too late
And I'll ask your roommate if you're home
You call me on Thursday
And we'll hang out all day
Then fall asleep on the phone
And oh, I'll hold your hand when we drive
And we'll lose track of all the time
And we'll tell everyone
That we ain't never felt so alive
And I wanna fall in love with you again
I don't have to try
It's so easy who needs to pretend?
But because it's so funny
Let's just think about it honey
Let's just fall in love again
We'll fall disgustingly fast
And we'll stop hangin' out with friends
And they'll be so offended
And I wanna fall in love with you again
I don't have to try
It's so easy
Who needs to pretend?
But because it's so funny
Let's just think about it honey
Let's just fall in love again
Let's just fall in love again
So let's just fall in love again
P.S. For anyone getting married soon, the song above is probably a cute little song for a wedding slideshow or the like. You heard it here first. You're welcome! ![]()
P.P.S. If you post something nice about your mate, and they give you a big fat smooch (or more?) as a result, you're also welcome!
Happy VHO7V Friday! Have a good weekend y'all, and be sure to tell that special someone you love them!

Nice to see someone else appreciate Jason Castro!!!
November 20th, 2009 at 5:21 am
Cute you. Das all I'll say. (for now. Gotta go work)
November 20th, 2009 at 6:33 am
Good morning Ed!
Happy Friday!
You coming tonight to the Triad blog party! I hope I'll see you there!
November 20th, 2009 at 7:19 am
... awww, Ed ... a serious and mushy topic ... ok, I'll shed my goofball atttitude today ... and get a wittle bit mushy ... for the record, I'm not into baby talk, either ... hated when some of my "couple" friends did the "I wuv you" and "no, I wuv you more bumpkin!" talk in front of us ... yeeecch!!!
... anyway, there's seems to be so many things we look for in the "perfect" mate ... looks, intelligence, personality, humor, etc ... but when it really comes down to it ... it really comes down to little intangible things that's hard to describe ... at least for me ...
... it's almost like ... you know a person is right for you inside ... somehow, you just know ...
... girls I tend to fall for have that "cute" quality, too ... but I'm not talking about looks ... it's more about attitude and personality ... and you can't force "cuteness" ... you either have it or you don't ...
... sorry, Ed ... no perv response from me ... I might talk like a perv ... but when it comes to relationship ... I tend to straighten out ...
... Have a Good One Everyone!!! ...
November 20th, 2009 at 7:40 am
... ok, I'll help the brutha Ed out a little bit ...
... if on the prowl and just looking ... of course da guys eyes
will notice the 58008 first ... and da bigga do 58008 da bigga da eyes
... and then they'll do the silent nod of acknowledgement
between themselves ... as silly boys tend to do
...
... me ... I like a nice pair ... of ... sexy ... seductive ... EYES ... yeah, that's what I notice first ... before a word is said ...
... not da 58008 and not da 55V ... can't get to know a woman by staring at her 58008 and 55V ...
... but you can stare at her eyes the whole time ... and hold a meaningly conversation ... and you actually might get her interest ...

When I first read your title, I thought your blog was going to be about those unfave traits. You would've gotten flack from us girls about that, so either way, you're in a lose-lose situation.
Anyways, for the fave traits. I like that the hubby is funny - always cracking jokes and also laughing at (appreciating) my nerdy / geeky tendencies. I like his laid-back (mellow) attitude and his patience. He's smart - warning, don't play trivia games against him! I like that we have similar values and think alike - we can often finish each other's sentences. He takes care of me - for example, he'll make me coffee every morning and if we're walking along a roadway, he'll keep to the traffic side. Oh, and of course, he's cute (although I don't know if guys like being referred to as cute)!
As rayboyjr mentioned. A lot of it are intangible things that is hard to describe. It's a lot of little things that can't really be summed up with one adjective.
November 20th, 2009 at 8:00 am
LOL! Castro's cool. I appreciate good muzack from anyone though...
Hehe, thanks(?) naks!
I going be on one plane at that time. Have a cold one (soda) for me!
Wow! So deep it's bottomless! So true! Impressive beej!
Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!! Funny how men work eh?
Awwwww... hubby sounds like a sweet fella. You lucky Hobbz. Most boys don't know to do those kinda things. And yeah, please refer to us as "cool" not "cute"!
November 20th, 2009 at 9:20 am
If I were single, this would be my superficial list:
1. 588V
2. 55V
3. He needs to look like he takes care of himself. Slobs are not sexy. But, if he more pretty than me, then too vain, he only going look at himself.
4. A marketable college degree is a must. I like expensive restaurants and he has to be able to afford me.
5. A great sense of adventure.
The "I'm already married list":
1. Adventurous. He married me and we made kids. That's a big adventure! It's a fun adventure too! LOL!
2. Gentleman. It's classy. It's sexy.
3. Sweats! LOLLOL! He's athletic, he can build stuff, he cleans the house...and, um....hahahhah!
4. Humble. ....see, opposites do attract.
5. Spiritual.
November 20th, 2009 at 10:05 am
That is a cute song.
November 20th, 2009 at 10:15 am
Ed, have a great trip!
November 20th, 2009 at 10:47 am
@leerz - made kids, huh? ... nah-nah! What's your take on Top Chef?
November 20th, 2009 at 10:50 am
@Hobbz - as the Little River Band sang "it's all up to you, but whatever you do ... take it easy on me." Here's to a good matchup!
November 20th, 2009 at 11:00 am
kuya....what da guy name who left the other week before the older lady? i wish he was still there instead of the girl. i'm rooting for mike and the older of the V brothers.
November 20th, 2009 at 11:03 am
I meant Kevin, not Mike. Mike I was the one who left. The other Mike is the younger brother.
November 20th, 2009 at 11:05 am
BTW, guys, IMHO...girls are cute. Women are beautiful or pretty. When I hear a guy refer to a woman as cute, I automatically think of little girls.
November 20th, 2009 at 11:09 am
I dunno what I really look for. Maybe that's why I'm still single. What I'd really like is a re-habbed alcoholic. That way, she'll understand why I want to go to the bar, but won't be able to go herself, so she can pick me up when I'm drunk (I kid, I kid).
November 20th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
oh cool! i gotta listen to that song when i get home!
my list:
1) great personality (funny, gets along w/ everyone, down to earth, etc)
2) similar upbringing (same morals, etc.)
3) click-ability (we click! things are easy - like the lyrics of the song)
4) caring/loving (always does little things to shows he cares or thinks about me... aww!)
5) smart & sporty (hehe, gotta be smart & also like to be adventurous)
November 20th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
I'm diggin' the Jason Castro song. It's sweet.
Here's another relationship song. I like all the real life references in it. It's kinda similar to what NeedaHobby and rayboyjr mentioned above about those intangible things.
Gym Class Heroes
"Cupid's Chokehold"

November 20th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
LOL! You have some strange fetishes there leerz.
Love the pager talk usage for 588V and 55V ! LOL!
Thanks E! But to me, it's "cool".
Thanks eMmz!
Nah, cute is a state of being. Guys, girls, women, men, dogs, cats, even old grandmas and grandpas. Dey all can be cute.
OMG! Horrible EMMbot! Ingenious, but horrible.
Ahaha! You should trademark that word McCat! Love it!
That song is catchy too! I always used to hear it on Hit List on Music Choice (Oceanic Digital Channel 801). Like the plug?
I like the line: "I mean she even cooks me pancakes and Alka Seltzer when my tummy aches. If that ain't love then I don't know what love is."
November 20th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Ok been thinking about my list. Kinda tough to narrow down to only five but here goes:
1. Intelligence - Gotta have something going on in the noggin but don't necessarily need to be book smart. Who wants to go through life with a dummy right? :p
2. Sense of humor - Gotta be able to kick it and have a good time.
3. Dreams - All slackers need not apply. Gotta have goals in this life, even if they're simple and we take it one baby step at a time. I'm all about movin' on up (to the east side) and making this life as good as I can.
4. Patience - Cuz I got none . . .
5. Morals - Honesty, loyalty, integrity and all that.
November 20th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Ed-
I is single guy, so I gotta put out my "gotta haves" in a potential mate.
1. I want someone whom I can spend a day with and it feels like a second.
2. I want someone I can get lost with.
3. I want someone whose smile can make the sun shine.
4. I don't want someone who is hot, or sexy, I want someone who is beautiful...
5. I want someone who will be mine, and who will allow me to be theirs.
Enough mushy from me...
NEO
November 20th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
@ Ed - Yup, that's a dope line. I also like:
"She even got her very own ringtone
If that ain't love then I don't know what love is"
- Because if you don't have your own ringtone on your significant other's phone, then you ain't jack.
"And we can be on the phone for three hours
Not sayin' one word
And I would still cherish every moment"
- This was especially meaningful when there weren't a lot of unlimited cell plans out there. Do you know how much 3 hours of cell minutes cost??
November 20th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
@Bruddah NEO - I had to bus' out the puffs plus ... that is a well thought out list.
November 20th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Nuff all dis mushy talk everybody! Now go out and watch New Moon! :p
November 20th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
@kuya - I don't think you have to worry about my team. As Justin Timberlake says, your team ... it's on fire, it's on fire ...
November 20th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
@tita & @kuya - I was kinda surprised that Kevin won this week, since his food was so simple. It did seem to be the most well executed, though. I wonder how Brian felt after he helped him with the souvie (sp??) method.
November 20th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
Mate Traits........HEY MATE YOU GOT
T CASH...omg funny......do you really want for poorer full of intelligence........!
my number one list do not pick a dud of a guy....!
Pick a guy that can be molded ...even if it take 19 years to mold them it is worth it!
November 20th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Pick a guy that you can yell at and he can pretend to at least listen.
November 20th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
@Hobbz - Kevin put out simple quality. Mike Volt surprised me since he had competition experience, I thought he would be bounds ahead of erryone. If Brian is as bad ass as he thinks he is, shouldn't matter that he helped Kevin.
November 20th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
@£eerz - new m00n .... no thanks!
November 20th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
@the wahines - which is the most flattering ... To be called beautiful, gorgeous, attractive, or hottie?
November 20th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Aloha Ed. Congrats on the 1 year. You doing good. I can tell when some couples are just good, and you seem good.
I'm inching up on my 5 year anniversary and just about to turn 30. No advice from me to you, but I'm glad to share the journey with you on this blog.

November 21st, 2009 at 12:00 pm
I been married for almost 19 years two kids...I am still screaming...omg! the best part is if you survive the first 15 years with two kids hanging around your neck you will make it to another 20 years without choking ach other!
You get tested after you have two kids.
November 21st, 2009 at 12:01 pm
so pick a guy that can handle kids and he has cash to take care of them the rest you can mold him!
November 21st, 2009 at 12:02 pm
we got married young so we were kids....! two kids we molded each other the way we want each other to be.
November 21st, 2009 at 12:05 pm
yes when you married young and have your kids young you can tolerate watching cartoons and BARNEY and THOMAS the tank Engine..omg...good thing I had my kids younger or I throw the t.v. if I have to watch the kids show over and over again.!! SO YOU WANT TO WATCH SHREK?
November 21st, 2009 at 1:49 pm
@kuya.d - I think that's an interesting question. My vote is for beautiful and here's why in my opinion:
Beautiful - This describes something that is timeless and can be used to describe anyone from a baby to a senior. It also refers to both the inner and outer aspects of a person.
Gorgeous - This describes someone that is spectacular looking like a supermodel. It doesn't feel like an everyday adjective that you'd use when someone is in sweats or all dirty. But, I personally think you can use beautiful in this situation, which makes it more flattering than gorgeous.
Attractive - This describes a person who is nice looking in a traditional sense (everyone would think this person is pretty). Because of this, it also feels a little colder or maybe more distant. It only comments on the outer beauty.
Hottie - This is to be only used when describing skimpily clad spring breakers.
November 21st, 2009 at 3:09 pm
@skycastles - mahalo for that feedback. I like "timeless" ... good one! along with elegant or stunning? I shoulda used those instead of attractive and hottie ...
November 21st, 2009 at 6:29 pm
hottie is from 18 to 23 after that .....wilted hottie!
November 21st, 2009 at 6:30 pm
beautiful....until DANG missing tooth after eating too much candy and fries! HOTTIE FULL OF SURGERY!
November 21st, 2009 at 6:31 pm
yes just learn to accept yourself .....and find a guy that loves you for missing tooth to senility!
November 21st, 2009 at 6:41 pm
BACK IN MY DAY ..the music we listen to....YES YES ... 1987 MUSIC.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLxTEV5vpyg
"Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You"
If I had to live my life without you near me
The days would all be empty
The nights would seem so long
With you I see forever oh so clearly
I might have been in love before
But it never felt this strong
Our dreams are young and we both know
They'll take us where we want to go
Hold me now, touch me now
I don't want to live without you
CHORUS:
Nothing's gonna change my love for you
You ought to know by now how much I love you
One thing you can be sure of
I'll never ask for more than your love
Nothing's gonna change my love for you
You ought to know by now how much I love you
The world may change my whole life through
But nothing's gonna change my love for you
If the road ahead is not so easy
Our love will lead a way for us
Like a guiding star
I'll be there for you if you should need me
You don't have to change a thing
I love you just the way you are
So come with me and share the view
I'll help you see forever too
Hold me now, touch me now
I don't want to live without you
CHORUS
November 22nd, 2009 at 9:07 pm
@Rosette - wilted hottie ... you get credit for that new one. And thanks for busting out the Glenn Medeiros tunes. Or did George Benson record it first?
November 23rd, 2009 at 7:35 am
LOLOL! Then again, you can boss 'um around sky... and he won't complain.
Wow I'm impressed NEO. You ARE the one.
Bwahahaha!
Puffs Plus! LOL!
Did you see it yet leerz? Good shtuffs?
Tsk tsk tsk. Rosey Rosey Rosey. Don't you know we men can't be molded. You have to love us for who we are...

November 23rd, 2009 at 10:17 am
who da nerd?!
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:19 am
no i neva see. i can't go look at eye candy old enough to be my child. LOL!
@Kuya- like beautiful. like how sky put it "timeless." it also denotes classy, IMHO.
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:30 am
@Leerz - yup, timeless does directly reflect class. IMHO, classy refers to a more mature woman who carries herself with a certain quality that commands respect in a non-snobby way.
... and since when has age mattered to you? Nah!
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:33 am
@Ed - I meant I shoulda used elegant and stunning instead of attractive and hottie on the list of options.
... And your boy Glenn Medeiros was teaching a couple years back at Island Pacific Academy. Not too sure where he's at now.
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:35 am
@Leerz - and sistah, you always been beautiful! ... awww!
November 23rd, 2009 at 12:56 pm
New Moon watchers.
Hehe, nah, actually I wanna see it at some point too I guess.
LOL! Eye candy child?
Nah, I like "hottie"! LOL!
Awww...
November 23rd, 2009 at 1:38 pm
@Ed - Tempting but would probably get irkatating if he's so dumb that he can't do anything by himself.
@kuya.d - The G-man did his student teaching in my history class in high school. I think we scared him away from teaching the big kids though. Had some smart alecks in the class that made it challenging for him. Plus, we would nag him about singing but he never did sing for us.
November 24th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
LOLOL! to both your comment and the usage of the word irkatating!!!
November 24th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
@sky - word! I hear you, I woulda gave him a hard time about his hair ... Haha!
