Fave Friday - Hawaii's Best 24 Hour Eateries?
By World Wide Ed
[This topic was a special request by the BIL (Brutha-In-Law). Please help a brutha out. (yeah, literally, my brother)
]
Later this year, the shift at BIL's job will be changing from "normal" to dracula-like, overnight hours. Other than the complete lifestyle change, one of his main concerns was where to grind after work. He'll be getting off of work when the rest of us non-zombies will be just waking up, so his "dinner" would essentially be in the wee hours of the morning!
So how about it? Where are your picks for the best 24 hour eateries around Oahu? My pea-sized brain can only think of the easy standards like Zippy's and Like Like (yeah, I meant to spell it like that !
). What else y'all got?
P.S. Happy VHO7V Friday and have a good weekend y'all! I'll be back in a couple weeks. Wish me luck with sistah Colbs. Shoots!

Haven't been for a long time but Wailana Coffee House used to be good.
Other places I can think of are looong gone.
September 18th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Anna Miller's. Another place I haven't been to for a while.
September 18th, 2009 at 12:31 am
... Happy Pau Hana Friday!!! ...
... I say TAIYO RAMEN ... but I'm not sure if it's open 24 hours ... at least used to be open until the wee hours of the morning ... not sure ... but that's close enough for me ...
... because I love the Ramen or the Curry Rice ... and I could eat either anytime of day or night or morning ... and get plenty of other stuff too ... like Kim Chee Fried Rice ... ooh I wanna go right now!!!
...
... if Taiyo doesn't qualify as 24 hrs, I say SANOYA ... but I'm not sure if they're open 24 hours either ...
... well, ok, ok, any other 24 hour Ramen place is my choice ...
GO WARRIORS / GO BOWS

never tried yet, but i saw it on man vs food.
mac 24-7
zippy's is the easiest place though.
or last resort get 7 11
September 18th, 2009 at 5:55 am
Hmmm, can't help you there other than Zippy's. Is he planning to eat out every day? I guess there are people out there who will dine out for every meal for various reasons. Must be very costly and mostly unhealthy I would think. I can't imagine having roast pork with gravy over double scoop rice and mac salad every day...but then you'll have many different choices at most restaurants.
Have a nice vacation Mr. Ed. Will you be blogging?
September 18th, 2009 at 6:00 am
I'm not much help ... I'll usually end up at Zippys for a late night or early morning meal. Have a nice weekend everyone and Ed, good luck w/ Colbie!
September 18th, 2009 at 6:12 am
Aloha Ed,
For easy access and convenience, gotta be Zippy's! Zippy's is slowly adjusting its prices and always offers specials and discounts, so going there is not as expensive as previous years. Not all Zippy;s are 24/7 anymore, so check before going to a particular one of your choice (weekends are 24/7).
Wailana Coffee House has always been good too!
If you like Korean food, Sorabal is open 24/7, as well as some other smaller ones.
For the ramen guy, there are some open all the time on Keeamoku, I guess to take care of all those guys who frequent local bars in the area!
Have a wonderful weekend!
September 18th, 2009 at 7:25 am

Miki's in Pearl City . . . does anyone know if it's still there? Haven't been to that place in years and don't know if I spelled it right (or is it Micky's? Micki's?), but I know they open really, really early for the after-club crowd or the construction peeps who gotta get up early.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:04 am
Everybody already listed the ones I know.
Have a great weekend everyone.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:07 am
byrons' and liliha bakery are either open 24hrs or open till late, i think. memory fuzzy cuz i haven't been out and about at the wee hours for a long time. getting old = cannot stay awake like i used to.
bob's big boy was another one but its still being renovated due to fire.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:13 am
Zippy's has become overrated and overpriced! The best, actually are the little Korean restaurants near and around "Korea"moku. Most are not 24 hrs but are open past midnight. (Except Sorabol, which is 24 hrs and overrated like Rashad Evans.)
But the BEST 24 HOUR RESTAURANT EVAAAAAAR? --> Mom's house!
September 18th, 2009 at 10:21 am
Bob's Big Boy: The food is passable, not great, not awful... ok, a few items might hit either extreme. Stick to the simple stuff, burgers, hotcakes, etc.
Byrons Drive-in: Near the Airport, probably the most varied menu of any of the 24 hour places. This is take-out plate lunch style food, while there is no actual dining room there is a covered lanai with seating.
Denny's: In Waikiki on Kuhio.
Flamingo Pearl City: Food is OK, about what you expect for a 24 hour diner.
Jack-in-the-Box
Likelike Drive-In: The food is above average for a 24 hour diner, while the saimin and the fried rice have been midnight favorites for the last how many decades.
Liliha Bakery: Closed on Tuesdays, but open 24 hours the other 6 days of the week.
Mac 24/7
Sorabol - Korean Food
Wailana Coffee Shop: Fried Chicken and breakfasts are favorites for the late night crowd at Wailana's.
Zippy's
September 18th, 2009 at 11:19 am
What about Dennys... they open 24 hours and the late night menu is pretty ono... Go for da HOOBURRITO... burrito w/ spicy, crispy chicken strips, onion strings, jack cheese, cheese sauce and BBQ sauce... served with queso and chips... 8.99 at the one in Kaneohe... buggahz perfs!!!
September 18th, 2009 at 11:28 am
Ah. Would qualify as a Friday or Saturday night thing. The Grease is pushing it to stay out late on a work night (not that he did when he was a younger Grease).
Tie -- Liliha Bakery (if I lazy cook); or Star Market (24 hours), then, to my . . . how do you say it, Ed? Oh, yeah, to the Grease's "crib" to rustle something up. The latter helps. Cook something up really, REALLY good to eat, think about the gal with whom I could've gone at end of night . . . to HER crib [! Hey, now . . . this is a FAMILY publication (!)].
2nd place: Zip's.
Love this question.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:33 am
hmmm... for late night dining, i gotta go with zippy's, primarily for convenience. maybe denny's once in a blue moon. otherwise, i'd probably just go through the drive through at mcdonald's or jack in the box! years ago, maybe i would have gone to anna miller's or wailana.
rayboyjr - taiyo is good but i think they close at 2 or 3 am... which is late enough for me!
t-roy - great list! liliha bakery is closed on mondays, though. they close at 8 pm on sunday night, then open on tuesday morning... at 6 am? (not sure about the opening time)
skycastles - miki's (i think that's how you spell it... ?) is still there! they were featured in a metromix review a while back.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:38 am

September 19th, 2009 at 2:27 am
zippy's is overrated. i'm partial to like like because i've been going there for years friday night after bowling, so we got our usual orders and same waitress. in my early college years, we hit up liliha bakery a couple of times. food is okay, but the prices were pretty awesome. anna miller's is another good one (farmer's breakfast is one of the better deals). for me, pretty much anywhere but zippys. is eggs and things in waikiki still open? i know they used to be open really early in morning. i think i went there a couple of times around 3 a.m. kind of pricey, but they gave a lot of food.
btw, go easy on me team wwe. i got smoked the first week in that league. funny, because i smoked my opponent in my other money league with a less "flashy" line-up. now i get to go up against brady and the elder manning. hopefully i can get another monster game out of hasseljunk and flacco.
September 19th, 2009 at 11:58 am
@Ed - Yeah, that's probably the one. It's on Lehua Ave across the street from some car dealership and next door to a barber shop.
September 19th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
oh BTW Ed, tell Colbie that I think she's beautiful, and extremely talented, and that if she ever needs a date in Hawaii, she should hit me up... I can catch bus to her hotel... and I can carry her bags as we go to the McDonalds, and I would let her order extra cheese if she like... brah, she can even supah size em!
) HAHA have fun!

September 23rd, 2009 at 11:11 am
Miss you Ed!
September 24th, 2009 at 12:24 am
Miki's not open 10 pm - 11 am anymore...too much noise and other issues. Harry's down the street open overnites now.
September 28th, 2009 at 7:19 am
Pssshhh! Have you seen my horrible team pash? They're destined for the basement!
Ooooh, now I'm curious if they are still open. Might be a good option for BIL.
LOL! You'll be happy to hear that she actually replied to your comment/question using your name. The only time she did that. Hope that made your day!
LOL! Thanks man! This week's WIHIES will be SFO fo sho, so study up!
Interesting... Thanks for the scoops Ryan!
