Happy Birthday to WWE-eeeeee!

April 28th, 2009
By

A year ago to the day, the world was fortunately unfortunately exposed to the mind of me, and I hereby apologize.

You see, the peeps at the 'tiser opened thangs up for me in the backend *snicker* and shortly thereafter, the first ever World Wide Ed blog (to the Advertiser community) - simply entitled "Aloooooha!" - was born (in the USA)!

Things were slow at first, as I tried to find my place amongst the big dogs *woof WOOF* like Stephen Tsai's "The Warrior Beat," and Catherine Toth's "The Daily Dish," but eventually, I found my virtual footing and carved a cozy little niche out for myself and you fun, faithful readers.

Hoooo! I can't believe it's already been a year! *wipes away Visine induced tears* As some of you mentioned in yesterday's blog, time really does fly when you're having fun eh? It still amazes me that there were THAT many topics to write about on the daily. Sure, I did miss a few days here and thurr due to travel, holidays, and a little thing called a wedding, but for the most part, I was pretty on top of it wouldn't ya say?

In fact, if my math is correct (and don't truss' me 'cause I suck at math), I probably wrote about 261 posts, give or take a few.

365 (days in the year)
- 104 (weekend days)
-----------------------------------------
= 261 actual week days of possible WWE blogs

OK, I checked out our backend *snicker* and saw that I actually posted 200 fitty blogs! (I tol' you my math sucks!) Either way, I think that's quite a feat if I do say so myself. *bends over and waits for a pat on the back* (*snicker*) In theory, if I continue this blog on that torrid pace for the next 30 years of my life, I would've bored you to tears with 7,500 posts! Seventy five HUNNY!

Scurred?

Don't be.

It'll be all good in the 'hood going forward. Trust.

I think I'm finally getting the hang of this. No more posts about nails, my broken mandible or MMA. I heard you (or rather, I didn't hear you at all in the comments) loud and clear. Jeez, and it only took me a year to finally get it! Ha!

Mahalos to each and errry one of you for reading. E Komo Mai to those coming by way of seeing my spooky face in today's paper. Whether you're new and this is your first hit of WWE, or you need to be sent to WWEA pretty soon, I send mad love to you! Please continue to read and post your feedback in the comment area. That's really what keeps me going. I love reading and interacting with the `ohana we got goin' on here. You guys are the ones who make this blog fun for me! Keep it up yo!

Talk to me (Help a brutha improve WWE)!
* What was your favorite post?

* What do you hope to do in the next year?

Here are my answers. Post yours below k?

* What was your favorite post? - The Fun Day Monday: You Know You're Local If... post cause we made triple digit history with that one son! LOL!

* What was your least favorite post? - The MMA Television Programming posts because it took like FOREVER to put together and nobody ever commented on it. :(

* What do you want to see more of? Less of? - More comments, less low comment counts. ;)

* What's missing? - Guest posts. Will try to get more of y'all involved with posts of your own for us to dish on.

* How can I improve? - I'm all ears!

* What prompts you to want to comment/participate? - ditto the above

* Hints for future posts? - Yes please. 8)

* Some of your favorite WWE memories/highlights of the last year? - the appearance and disappearance and reappearance of Chicken Grease (he was actually my first ever commenter, and it was a positive one at that. In fact, it was so good that it jump started my drive to make this place good), giving away free movie passes to readers like JMAW, Miss Priss, and liane, talking high school supremacy shmack with frankie, celebrating the Phillies' World Series victory with uncle jimmy, starting and growing the Where in Hawaii series (and being flattered by a few copycats 8) ), scratching my head at Helen's ridiculous comments, the funny wedding jokes and videos like the Best Man Blunder Video, making up nicknames for all of you, the thank yous for my periodic PSA posts, the turning point from single digit daily comment counts to double digit daily comment counts (woo hoo!), assigning roles (hunter, chef, law enforcement, etc.) on our desert island, the birth of Scott's boy, standing up to tita leerz (and getting pwned! in the process), brightening the start of your work week with Fun Day Mondays, getting my blogs hijacked for totally unrelated topics :P , the moderation bot's strange rules/flags, kuya.d's successful "Prom Songs" guest post, the "Good Morning"'s from M, the lowdown from the female perspective from snow, NeedaHobby, skycastles, kako_mochi, kate, YN and mcat, the sage lecturing advice from hemajang, MakiSushi, Coconut Willy, Kage and Kel Sr. (and jr.), the humor of Ynaku, bB, and rayboyjr, the periodic appearances of Dave, Syxx, BananaFysh, S Ticket, che, zzzzzz, Lose Money, soogs, miLL-viLLe, EMM386, HNL2LAS, Paco, Takeshi, MoOgooGuypAN, L, and Bre, being the first 'tiser blogger to break the Susan Boyle story, collecting names for our future WWE Fantasy Football league, seeing new faces come out of lurk mode, learning what VHO7V meant, and much more! Keep the memories a-comin'!

* What's the biggest thing that happened to you in the last year? - Hands down, da big dance, fo shizzle.

* What do you hope to do in the next year? - Plan and take an RV trip, interview more Hawaii celebs (BJ Penn, Shane Victorino, Colbie Caillat, holla atcho boy!), etc.

Thanks again for sticking with me for the last year. Here's to another 7,250 or so y'all (yeah, I used a calculator for that one... whut!?)! Hehe, Shooooots!

  1. miLL-viLLe:

    I enjoy the MMA talk, but I guess not everyone else can relate. But yea keep up the good work WWE because your blogs are one that I can actually relate to :-}

  2. buzzbunny:

Congrats on making it to one year, dude! Worrrrddddd!

  3. kate:

Congrats once again, Ed! Happy first birthday! And may I say, you look so good for your age!

I haven't been posting here for very long...not like those others you mentioned. I'm sure I've missed some interesting topics. The "guess the song" posts were fun...some of them we couldn't even end. As I recall, one post lived for a week! Thanks to everyone here for making this fun!

  4. YN:

i have recommended your blog to friends so that means it must be good sometimes, right? ;) oh yeah, it even helped me pass time at the airport... remember jakarta airport greetings? :D happy 1st bday, youngin'!

  5. bB:

can't believe it's been a year. i've been reading this from the start, but i was mostly lurking for a while. i like the mma stuff, but i shy in the beginning. in fact, i think this the first blog i posted on. :)

one of my favorite blogs, was your japan trip. i like seeing stuff about japan or travel. your wedding article is coming in handy too.

bj penn, shane victorino, and kurt suzuki interviews would be good. kurt is quietly having a good year so far. kinda of bias, cause kind of related to him.

  6. Ynaku:

    Happy Anniversary my Bruddah.

Wat, I make you laugh? Whoo Hoo. Well cuz, you stuck a nerve with the You know you local...........

I had a blast with that one.

Sorry, me not into Kung Fu Fighting. Although BJ Penn from BI, I no follow MMA.

But hey, keep it up. I'll get another Where in Hawaii Is Ed. At least I get one on da scoreboard. Not bad for Hilo boy.

  7. hemajang:

Congrats, Mr. Ed. Keep it going. Most of all, I enjoy the commentators who have responded to your interesting posts. They pretty honest and funny at the same time. My sons enjoy MMA more than I do but hey, I may not post but will always read/lurk...so no skeed, get creative and post what you like. If you really want to stir da pot, then politics and religion would garranz strong feelings but WWE is not the Ed-itorial Blog. The big question for me is...how come WWE when most of your posts are local specific?

  8. kuya.d:

As C&K would say, "it's been a good time together, and the best is yet to co-one . . ."

Good job Ed, congrats on the uno anny!

Hmm, best posts to me gotta be the Wednesdays with "Where in Hawaii is Edward Sugz?", those keep us all competitive in a ohana way. I also dig "Survey Thursday", those help us as WWE ohana to get to know each other. And the Fridays with "Flashback or Fave 5", those tend to show our creativity and togetherness, like ohana.

I guess the overall moral to the story is, WWE has an ohana appeal to it. Your daily feedback shows us that you pay attention to us, and our feedback to each other only proves that we hit your page more than once a day. Kinda like a healthy addiction, I guess.

And Ed, thanks for getting me in touch with great peeps like Uji, Hobbz, BFysh, Ynaks, and the lovely tita leerz *eyes watering*, it was really nice to reconnect with my sis!

So Ed, as we say here on WWE, i07VHVW

  9. Kel Sr.:

    Aloha Ed,

Guess it would have to be your wedding (pre & post)! Great to see another one bites the (oops, better stop here)! So, please let us know how the matrimonial life is going, the wedding bliss, those passionate times, as well as those funny times!

    Now if only Jr...........................?!??!!

Keep up the great blogging you do.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Da Sr.

  10. frankie:

    261 = 250? Tsk Tsk. Kaiser High School mathematics! ;-) Happy e-birthday!

  11. che:

Congratulation Ed for making 1 year. My favorite thing is "Where is Ed". I never won yet but fun to play. I also like the comments that you make.

  12. MakiSushi:

Hey WWE! Congratulations on your numba one Blog Birthday!!!

I is mostly a lurker but I post cuz I enjoy how you answer all those who post. I freak out every Wednesday cuz I absolutely neva know WIHIES! so hard.

Tanks for allowing dis senior member to mingle with the youngstas - It's good fun over hea! You are a very cool dude, I wish you many more years of success!

  13. MakiSushi:

My favorite post of the year was your wedding, since I neva get invited.

  14. MakiSushi:

least favorite - no can remember any.

  15. MakiSushi:

the middle stuffs: Ed, honestly, I dunno how you do this day after day. My brain is sore just trying to think. You doing great, keep it up!

  16. MakiSushi:

My favorite moment: sharing songs and lyrics with da crew! even 'tho i'm aged, music is timeless, so it's always fun.

a memorable moment - bumping into Coconut Willy at the Valerie Bertinelli fan club meeting.

  17. uji:

well, Edward, you've come a long way in a year, young man.. nah, nah..

so, let's see.. what's special about WIWIES.. hmmm, okay, seriously (for just a minute) what's special about it is that it's quintessentially Hawaii.. first of all, there's you, a real nice guy who always seems to have a real interesting pers-pec-tive on things, a positive outlook, and a polite nature.. and you set the tone ova heah..

then there's the WWE family, a mix of young and old, all different kinds of real nice people with some important common bonds that surround life in Hawaii..

where but in Hawaii could you put a close-up picture of some obscure dish in some obscure location and have people know exactly what it is and where.. only in Hawaii..

and for people like those of us stuck on the Mainland, that's a real sweet treat.. so thanks, and kutgw..

oh, and watch someone doesn't drop in any minute and KYA...

  18. Bre:

I like any post with pictures and my favorite was your wedding with all the pictures!

  19. S Ticket:

    Happy 1 year Ed,
My fav Blog...on either site...has to be...the Lasik one...for obvious reasons....the look on his face with the goggles, that really was priceless. I'll prob get in trouble, but it's so worth it.

  20. EMM386:

Congrats Ed! You know I like/find interesting if I respond to a post. Its like a lot of things in life: some you like, some you don't. Enjoy the ones you like, don't sweat the rest.

  21. NeedaHobby:

Happy anniversary Ed! Congratulations! Whoa, 250 posts - that's impressive! I'm always amazed at how you can come up with a different topic, day in and day out.

I haven't been here from the beginning, but have been here for the last 6 months or so. Just so you know, even if I don't post, I am reading - just might not have anything to add on that particular day. *gasp*

I enjoy participating because you take the time to address all of our comments. And, like others have mentioned, there is an ohana feel to this blog. There's interaction with you and among the readers too. Thank you for creating that environment ;)

@kuya - thanks for your kind words and thanks for helping make the blog fun ;)

  22. kako mochi:

OMG - happy anniverysary! can't believe it's been a year already . . . my how time flies when i'm on these blogs and not working!!

    aaaaand . . . i got mentioned!! *teehee* thanks!!

my most fav blog is when i won the "where in the world ..." post! YAY for me ;)

  23. kako mochi:

    OMG - how's my typing/spelling skillz?!

    LOL!!

  24. NeedaHobby:

Whoops, I was getting all mushy and forgot to answer some of your questions.

Like you mentioned, favorite post was "you know you're local ..." IIRC, that one had 100+ posts, yeah? I also enjoyed your Flashback Fridays and the meme (sp?) one. We got to know more about each other that way.

Sorry for not responding to your MMA posts ... just not my thang. And, sorry for someimes hijacking your blog! But, I enjoyed chatting w/ tita about Top Chef and w/ kuya and kate about Idol ;)

After last week, I was thinking you could do a "What in Hawaii?" in addition to the "Where in Hawaii?". So, besides guessing the restaurant, we also could guess the dish? Also, liked kuya's guest post on a holiday. That kept the fun going into the weekend. Just my 2 cents ...

  25. Chicken Grease:

Haahahah, what else is there to say? Happy anniversary/b-day to WWEd! Great, great blog, seriously. Always chok-ful of stuff and, I'll say it, MY fav' blog at Advertiser 2.0 and in my top 5 around the web! Have big pah-ty, Ed!

Sorry for disappearing and reappearing, etc . . . just the nature of my job :O , heh. I'll be around more :) .

You are a very conscientious dude. Keep up the good work, boyo!

  26. skycastles:

    Happy anniversary Ed!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knp9-GY6fHE

  27. Coconut Willy:

Gotta go meeting, but I'll be baaack!

  28. skycastles:

My fave posts are the lyrics ones. We should do some movie lines as well. Also, I like how you make us all feel so spesho by replying to each one of us individually. Must take forevers but it's a nice touch. I also like the quiz-like posts where we get to know each other better. Kinda interesting to hear all the different perspectives. Lastly, I just gotta say that I started out reading a bunch of the blogs here but have cut it down to just reading yours on the regular. Somehow the others just can't compete lol

  29. rayboyjr:

    Happy 1-Year Anniversary!

Just one word of advice as you head into another year of blogging ... I know you want to tweak the blog to make it better and please everyone ... just be careful and don't change too much ... because this blog is TOP 2 or 3 for a reason ... people like it the way it is!

  30. BananaFysh:

Congrats on the anniversary again, Ed!

I like the "Fave Five Fridays" and the lyrics games are always fun.

For some reason, I remember that post you did about playing Mario Kart in the theater before the movie started. It was just so random and funny to think of someone shouting "Mario Kart" as an invitation to join in a race! Fire up the DS, and jump in. Cool. 8)

  31. tita leerz:

    What prompted me to respond---
About a year ago, hubby saw your mug on the front page of the paper:
Hubby: Hon, look, Ed has his own blog.
    Me: Ed who?
    Hubby: Sugimoto!
    Me: oh. why?
Hubby: Maybe you should go on-line and check it out.
    Me: Yeah.
a few months later....after the summer has passed, I finally check out Ed's blog. since I read the news on-line everyday anyway, i figure i try since i was kinda bored at work that one day.
    and here i am today.
i still respond because you people are HE-LARRY-US!
oh, and cuz Ed lets us hijack his blog.

  32. MakiSushi:

I lovingly remember this classic blog moment: tita L rant ending with "is donkey a red meat?" and unclej cracking up at her. anodda reason I loves this place!

  33. soogs:

congradulations on your anniversary! i actually caught some of your stuff back in the day when you were at uh. blame search engines and my niele-ness in searching for peeps who share my last name. if you count all those posts (you wuz blogging b4 there was such a thing!) and the ones at the roadrunner/oceanic site, you're well over 250!

as for the future of your blog, i say just keep it as it is. reading your posts allows me to live vicariously thru you. i stay getting old and sedate, not to mention little bit senile too. if anything, the only suggestion i have is to post more pics/reviews of the places you go eat. esp tokkuri-tei. i haven't been there in years and i miss flipping thru that endless menu and trying new things every time.

even tho' i haven't posted as much as life w/the fam comes first (here's a pearl of wisdom from an elder soogs - dont plan on kids too soon - they are a joy no doubt, but enjoy your life as a newlywed first) i've still have read every one and look forward to another year of your blog!

  34. Coconut Willy:

    Happy 1st Ed.

I like this blog cause the subject matter is usually interesting and current or funny or thought provoking. I like the Where in the World Wednesdays. Not so much MMA. Don't watch that stuff.

Maybe you could add a useless fact of the day. I'm full of that stuff.

  35. M:

    Good Morning Ed! :)

Happy Anniversary! and many more to come! :)

I enjoy every one of your post and try to post everyday.

My favorite post is your trip to Japan.

  36. MaryJane Zigginz:

hey ed...=) congrats on the one year i only wish i found this place sooner...the where is ed spot is what attracted me to this blog...i found it googleing something i cant remember what ...so far ive enjoyed all the posts ive seen since thanks for the entertainment

  37. uji:

oh, and my favorite thread, besides the daily rantings and ravings from our sista TL (dat's TLC wit'out da C) was "you know you're local when"..

and rayboy's answer... "you know what bebs are"...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5v3ZwPrnaM

still laugheen' about that one..

  38. HNL2LAS:

  39. mcat:

Yeah, kinda amazing, but it was fun. And then, a few days later, had one noddah one over 100! Woo hoo! But actually, the amount now is pretty good fo manage. If I get Queen Bee's numbers every day I think I would have to hire an assistant! Hahaha!

Awww, youdabes too sky! Ho, get plenny "bests" yeah. Haha! Anyway, thanks for the props. Yeah, the replies take forevers! Sometimes my whole lunch break, but das ok! It's fun! Oh yeah, movie lines... hmmm... interesting... 8)

Just one word of advice as you head into another year of blogging ... I know you want to tweak the blog to make it better and please everyone ... just be careful and don't change too much ... because this blog is TOP 2 or 3 for a reason ... people like it the way it is!

You know it's comin' beej! "Youdabes'!!!" Hehe.

    * BananaFysh:
For some reason, I remember that post you did about playing Mario Kart in the theater before the movie started. It was just so random and funny to think of someone shouting "Mario Kart" as an invitation to join in a race! Fire up the DS, and jump in. Cool.

Haha! It was hilarious. The guy was loud and obnoxious, but smart, all at the same time! Mahalos for poppin' in when you can BF(F). Looking forward to more(?) from ya! ;)

    * tita leerz:

  41. Scott:

Way to go Ed! I like the fav fridays as well. I like that you're the only person who's ever given me a nickname (even though Scott isn't my real name...so a nickname of a nickname.....)
I liked bickering with ChickenGrease last year during election time, but lots of us were hyper sensitive (opiniated), as we should have been during that important time in our history.
Wedding pictures were very nicely done, and thank you for commenting on the post about my son. You're a very cool guy.

  42. M:

Ed, we are planning to share our photos and experiences of Japan, we just don't know when. We are still sorting though the 1000's of pictures that we have.

I think Ynaks would agree with me on this - Merrie Monarch is over, so we should have more sun. You shoulda seen the vog we had this morning, I guess that's why our pm rain seemed go come out of nowhere, we thought it was just vog in the sky.

@leerz & ed- although it's been YEEEARS since we seen each other, I've always considered you ohana!

  50. Ynaku:

kuya, I thought was going be voggy ALL day. I come back from Pahoa and stay raining. Not small kine rain. but the INOCANSEEWHEREIGOING kine rain. Then I go across the Wailuku river heading home and WAT? Stay all dry. No more rain dat side. Later on went drizzle but das it.

You right about when the Merry Monarch was over, the sun came back out.

  51. kuya.d:

@Ynaks - you right about the rain because we went up Kaumana and was dry. The rain seemed to start when we were coming down Kawailani, by the fire station. Today's vog was nasty. Rain over vog any day!

  52. snow:

    what, no party?

    anyway...

happy 1st birthday, mr. ed!! thank you for a great blog! i started reading your blog because thought it might be interesting to read the ramblings of a 30-something year old male but was even more intrigued after reading your "other" blog! you're funny and sincere (so i think!)! i don't remember when i started posting but i do recall reading some testosterone-laden comments that i thought i needed to respond to! ha ha! so, you have me pegged... i actually purposefully posted to provide a female perspective!

i must admit, your mma posts didn't thrill me... but i still read them even if i didn't comment (good to talk to hubby about! ) i do like the "where in the world posts" because they are a test of my memory (and i'm always amazed at how much stuff we store in our brains that we don't know is there... until we're asked to retrieve it!)! like others have mentioned, my favorite blog was your wedding (and those leading up to it... ). it was nice of you to share that special day with us!
